The viper is driving me mad. What am I supposed to do with that extra .5 tons.

I would like a nice clean build with a targeting computer to have amazing range with the +10% range quirk.

So far the only options have been:
Getting AMS ( useless )
Using a single srm 6 or 4 ( highly ineffective)
Cutting a lot of armor on the head and some on the legs ( you need that leg armor )

The best solution I've found is using 3 mediums and 3 smalls ( Medusa ) but I think face time for 3 mediums is not worth it when sniping.

And I feel like I need some medium to long range weapon to make sense of those jump jets.

It's like I'm in a bigger 40 ton arctic cheetah without ams :(

Argh.

You don't need full armor on legs with an EBJ -_-

On the Medusa? all your energy hardpoints are on your arms, and those arms get blown off a LOT.

Your right, and heck I don't run full armor in the legs of almost every mech I run (except most lights and some mediums).

But the EBJ build I posted has run out of crit space, and even if I upped two lasers ERMLasers, I lose a lot of heat efficiencey. Plus 2 of my energy now have an awkward longer burn time. I could lose the TC MKIII, but it really helps extend the range of both the LPLasers (in a nice high fire support position) and especially the ERSLasers that with ERSLaser range module, have almost IS MLaser type optimal range, so I don't want to ditch that.

Basically I found this build I like and enjoy the config, but it leaves me that .5 ton short of full usage. I just ignore it and pretend it isn't there Posted Image.

You need to ask yourself, if those puny quirks are really worth going for a suboptimal build and suboptimal hardpoints. The arm energy slots on the Viper are very bad. Especially for a mech that NEEDS to be back in cover very quickly.

I haven't played the Viper but with my experience playing 40~45 ton mediums, arms tend to fall off by just looking at them (even with most structure quirks).

I think it might not hurt to keep most weapons mounted in the torso like you are pointing out.

I mean, I'm kinda dig'n it...

Then again, I like ranged mediums.

That is not even the problem. The mounts on the Vipers arms are low. Very low - I would say at least Nova-like low or even lower.

This simply does not fly with a mech that starts to fall apart the very instance anyone from the enemy team looks at it.
