Added Role: The Commander

One feature I would like to see to help sort out confusion on the battlefield is to create what is called the "Mech Commander" role. This would be a separate player that is not in a mech but is able to take control of 3rd person drones from piloted mechs and also have a tactical/RTS look of the map. I'm drawing this inspiration from that 1st MechCommander game way back yonder. Not MC2 which was total garbage.

In addition to broadcasted voice chats, the Mech Commander can speak directly to pilots as not to disrupt other pilots. And of course, RTS Controls for the map along with a better GUI that can helps the pilots understand what the commander wants.

I would think that this role would only be available in faction matches (for obvious reasons) and is completely optional/voted. This portion I have not quite worked out though.

One of the biggest things that having this redefined role would to allow the devs more flexibility in game modes. Possibly some kind of faction campaign mode where we would have REAL objectives like the ones in the MechCommander game.

This is to make the faction play feel more alive and hopefully draw more people into the game. There are a lot of people, myself included, want to have some kind of actual team goal or bigger objective that is present within the game and not on the forums. We gamers have short attention spans and want to feel REAL progress. The grind in this game is what keeps me away.

rant I don't have a ton of time but I am impatient but hate spending MC on Mechs that would take me 2 weeks of grinding to purchase. /rant

I agree but i think a fieldcommander in his own mech would have an optional map overlay function that he can use. The commander is sitting on base playing with his maps, issuing orders to each lance independently, laying markers and drawing walking lines for them to see without the clutter of the other lances commands. Lance commanders can talk to him and he can talk to them all from completely separate locations on the map. If a lance commander falls another player may step forward to take his place. This would allow us to have independent radio channels for each lance. We could give the free-look function more use as you would be able to select your radio and quickly shift between frequencies to talk to other lances or switch to open frequencies for all players to hear so a lone pilot can relay that hes being tailed by two lights to his comrades in another lance and he needs immediate help.

I think a neat way to do this would be via a simple program that would run on a tablet. That way you could play MWO while waiting for XYZ Posted Image
-Have a version for the PC too with the same controls.

- If no one is there to perform a dropship command, then it goes to a field commander much like GrandTyme suggested with an in mech interface that has similar capability (as above) and can be passed around.

Oh like like this a LOT! Any idea how we can get the Devs to see this? :D
