To easy to hit, blow off limbs and become completely useless. You can not mix and max omni pods while retaining any kind of quirk. They are freaking horrible ... who would ever play one of these over, say, a cheeta? No one. That should tell you something about balancing these things.

The viper definitely needs some leg structure. With the jump jets as good as they are, the launch pad "feature" has been brutal, especially in bog and hpg. I'll come for a nice soft landing only to be launched into low orbit and loose 4-5% from my legs on the landing.

how about trying to not orbit and save some fuel to soft the landing? Just because you can burn through all th fuel does not mean you should.

More like structure would do more harm than good. Wasn't it discovered the jj mechs with structure actually suffer more damage from bad landings?
Don't recall if that was ever fixed.

And ya this mech runs fricking hot even with er smalls

-sigh- I called that when it was first shown, it will run hot because of the RoF on our weapon systems, as it lacks pod space for weapons and DHS... but no, everyone said "You don't know what you're talking about Metus!"

Burning jump jets on the way down doesn't seem to soften the fall at all. It's not the full burn jumps I have an issue with, its the 1/4 - 1/2 burn jumps that catch the edge of the terrain and act like a launchpad. Even if I have 50% fuel left for a soft landing, once the bug kicks in it jacks up my legs regardless. I'll try to capture a clip, it happens fairly often in the viper, but I've had it happen in other strong jumpers as well. Am I the only one experiencing this?

Nah, that's been going on for a good long while for many people.

Just give it about a 10% heat generation reduction and it's good to go. The people that typically complain about this thing are the ones that:

>Don't unlock their arms and suffer from the awful drawbacks to this (sluggish aim, slower torso twist speed, terrible side to side tracking, worse movement in brawls, etc. EVERY mech should ALWAYS have their arms unlocked REGARDLESS of if they have arm mounted weapons or not. The ONLY time to lock them is when you are SNIPING at EXTREME range. /rant)

>Play Inner Sphere mechs more often than Clan mechs, thus they aren't adjusting their playstyle. The only tanky clan mechs are the kodiak and gargoyle, and the kodiak is barely tanky while the gargoyle suffers from too much to mention it hurts PGI whyyyyy

>Aren't using a mix of torso mounts and arm mounts to never be completely stripped in one go

>Aren't shielding. Those arms catch so much fire it's stupid to NOT protect your torsos with them

>Are abusing the jump jets. You need roughly 1/5th of your fuel remaining to feather the fall on the way down.

>Are somehow following this illusion that every single clan mech needs to be able to mount 2 large pulses and at least 4 mediums. This thing isn't a timber wolf..

Speak for yourself. I may not pilot anything else until the Huntsman comes out, and even then those Huntsmen will not have many games to convince me I should keep devoting time to them when I could be piloting Vipers instead. This is pretty much exactly what I wanted when I wrote up my case for Vipers a year and a half ago now.

Frankly? if the Arctic Cheetah didn't exist, I fully believe we'd be seeing cries of "VIPER OP!! NERF NAOW!!" Only the existence of the Cheetah and the playerbase's experience in dealing with that 'Mech is stopping the Viper from giving fatbro pilots absolute fits. Without Cheetahs to've practiced against for the last several months, I don't think anybody in this game would've been remotely prepared for the shenanigans a well-built, well-run Viper can get up to.

if that is a statement, then you obviosuly haven't even tested it.

if thats a question then I wonder why you even made the first statement because such a question when having no idea if it works makes no sense.

It takes time to lern it and get used to it, leave 30% fuel for the landing and lern to time when you need to burst the fuel for the landing then it will succeed. Just go to the testing ground and do this a few times. I justed hoppd online to test it, it works. The rest is really just training. Especially the "launchpad edges" are a thing to get used to Posted Image

He's referring to a bug. If you hit a ledge while jump jetting, you fly upwards into the air with no real way of stopping it. Because you fly another 30-50 meters into the air, even 50% of your jump jet fuel will not stop you from taking fall damage.

I caught an edge on a bog mesa and got stuck in a perpetual jump for 5 mins. I finally broke free, but it occurred to me I shouldn't have since the enemy would have had a laughingly hard time hitting me as I "pogo-hovered" a couple kms up. Meanwhile I could rotate around and act like one hell of a large UAV.

Arms come off faster than arms off a cheeto and those come off fast. Makes it a nightmare to play the hero if you want the bonus quirks.

You can have both arms blown off and both legs red from a single lrm boat alpha. Been playing this game for 4 years and have had more sub 100 dmg games yesterday and today than all the rest of my 4 years playing.

The stop using arm only harpdoints the emch has plenty fo them with a well distribution. thats seriously not a reason.

Re-read my post, you have to use it with the arm hardpoints if you want the good laser quirks on the Medusa. It could do with some slight structure buffs on the arms. Otherwise there is absolutely zero reason to ever bring this mech at high level play over a cheetah... Ever.

thats just a decision the just go without them, theres tons of mechs having to make these kind of tradeoffs, it's not that the viper suddenly makes this a unique and huge issue. Also, I don't remember that blown off pods actually make the mech lose the podbonus. Further that alone I surely not the case of below 100 damage matches. Also, lrm's seriously?

Get in line. The Phoenix Hawk has sucked balls since launch.
