Dear PGI ... if you should ever read this ...

First a few words as introduction ...
I'm playing since 8 months now and so far I've much fun with this game.
I'm often on the forums reading and following the discussions here. And I must say, even if there is a lot of complaining 'bout some things - I personally think PGI does a good (not a great, but a good) job.
But there's one thing that bugs me out now more than before - the freaking MASC! Why?

Well I'm loving my SHC and play it most of the time as sniper. Until the last 2 or 3 patches the MASC worked 95% of the time well. But sometimes I got an annoying bug: My Mech just kept moving on it's own ... forward ... backward ... and the best: spinning around. I just can't stop it - I've tried it all (powering down, complete stop, tapping different movement keys, using MASC different ways, etc.)
It was annoying, but happened not very often, but now ... since the last 2 or 3 patches this happens in nearly every match I play! You know what? This is gamebreaking!

I tried to figure out how this bug is triggered, but I can't find any solution. Sometimes I press 3 or 4 keys while MASC is active and then it bugs. But sometimes I just move forward, activate MASC and ... yeah well I move forward the rest of the game.
That's not very effective for a sniping mech - especially when my SHC begins to spin like a mad dog (Posted Image) hunting it's own tail.

So pls PGI - do something about this! It's really a gamebreaker and I've lost some close matches because I just could not aim or hit anything when my mech spins the hell out of me ...

Just to make sure do your have any gamepads or joysticks connected to the system? If yes unplug them and see if the problem goes away. If No, than there is a much higher chance that it is a bug.

Sometimes I have a XBox 360 controller connected, sometimes nothing. The bug appears in both cases ...

Pugs make me drink, which made me spill beer on my keyboard. So now w sticks, but holding w = win so it works out. Just blame pugs. Not sure if this helped, but just had a terrible match, and now rum.....

Yeah I have had this problem for a long time. To me it always has bugged out if I use jumpjets while also having the MASC on. Or well it doesn't always happen if both keys are pressed at the same time but usually it does. I reported this bug ~6 months ago and saw that someone had reported it much earler... so Iam sure it will get fixed soon...

When it bugs out on me the mechs flies up until it runs out of fuel which ofc gives me nice leg damage and upon landing the jet fuel doesn't recharge (since obviously the jump key is stuck down) and it will begin turning right non stop.

Anyways you can fix it temporarily by just alt+tab out of the game and then opening it back. Which is always a handy trick to pull off while you are in a fight.

Steam or standalone client ?

And what key is MASC mapped to ?

I am on Steam client, use LShift and have had one instance where MASC wouldn't disengage.

I'll second this question. I used to have one of my firing groups mapped to LALT and push to talk mapped to LCTRL and when I was pressing both system language changed which caused MWO controls to go unresponsive.

That's not a bug with MASC specifically, it can happen with any movement input. As far as I can tell it's a client desync issue where the server doesn't know you've stopped turning/accelerating/using MASC/firing jump jets etc and won't accept any input that would override it. This should be fixable server side but so far nothing has been done about it, we've literally had this issue since closed beta.

Tried this today as it appeared again ... after tabbing back in the game my mech still moved alone, but as i pressed forwards it stopped again. But as you said ... quite a bad idea in combat >.>
And still I've got no idea what triggers this bug, cause it appears in very different situations.

That's funny, I only experience the convenient lag rubber band that locks my masc even tho I've long since let go causing a good dosage of damage to my internals on my spirit bear
