So PGI does not want to do player maps because of all of the work they would have to do to make it work. But I think there is an alternative. Let players have a simplified map maker to make maps like the untextured 2vs2 etc maps.

Why this could work.

1. It would be easier to make a tool that only used simpler shapes with no advanced textures or small intricate shapes. The tool could be something like a more complex version of http://voxelbuilder.com/ and could even be web based.

2. Maps could either be used untextured and or a starting point for full finished PGI maps.

3. Users could create maps and then post pictures and video for contests where people vote on what maps they want added.

What do you guys think? I know we would rather have a full editor but Russ said thats not going to happen. This would be better than nothing.

Those test maps are the ugliest thing I've seen in weeks.

MW4 had a great map editor. You created your height map, either manually in Photoshop or one of several height map editors.. then added the textures.. then adjusted the settings (like fog distance / thickness, water height, sight distance) then added the assets (stuff like buildings / walls / trees / spawn locations / objectives) then packaged it all up.

Sadly, people have been asking for a MWO mapmaker for over three years. PGI doesn't see the value in user-generated content and they will not spend time / resources to make it happen.

As the title says I am thinking about what we could get not what we would rather have. We know we are not getting a full map maker. We might get a limited map maker.

No its more cost vs reward. The reason I suggested this is the cost for them in time/money is much much lower.
