Here is my idea, There should be multiple types of jump jet to fit each individual players preference.
Examples:
Type A: High burn capacity, low turn ratio, low max speed. (for high jumps)
Type B: Low burn capacity, high turn ratio, high max speed. (armor core ground skaters)
Type C: Med everything ( average all purpose jump jet set)
Restrictions on which mechs would be able to use what should exist to balance this out. Tonnage /heat/ space/acceleration may need tweaking based on weight class and type. Rarity/ expenses should also contribute.
