Currently Drop Decks limit you to four mechs with a minimum and maximum tonnage. Wasted tonnage hurts your team but for some it can also hurt them. While I consider myself an average pilot in all classes (mediums are my best) I have known people who simply could not play one weight class or another. For a dedicated light pilot having to ignore their lights to ton up, or shorting their deck on tonnage is kind of a no win situation.

What if instead Drop Decks were a tonnage limit where you could use more than four mechs if you brought lighter mechs. Effectively buying you extra lives at the cost of tonnage. A cap to how many extra you could bring might need to be put in so people do not bring 12 locust's however before that is done I would like to see if that would really unbalance things.

Heavies were not super common, Assaults downright rare. This might help restore some of that balance without forcing people to play stuff they do not want to play. I also think it would shake things up as it would be harder to anticipate what the other team might field. Heck even trimming a few tons to get a 5th drop in even if it was in a 20 or 25 tonner might cause something unexpected.
