ON1-K has an unmissable CT so you might as well use it as long range with XL engines. Paint it black or a disruptive pattern. Black seems best. Gauss Rifle with CASE and 3x LLAS paired to the Gauss charge-up is good. LRMs on an Orion used to be great, but they have nerfed those LRMs away long, long, ago.

xl and case.

After the arrival of the Clans I can't make the On1 work, particularly the on1-k. If I use a standard engine, it's kinda slow, if I use an XL engine, well, the torsos are giant magnets for pew pew, similar to those of a Victor. It's even ignored in favour of more dangerous mechs, IIC hunchies or others. Any advice on how to play it/builds? My STD build for the on1-k http://mwo.smurfy-ne...4ab334332893669 My XL build http://mwo.smurfy-ne...cb810390e43e151

I like the K with an AC20 and 4 Mediums, standard 300. For some reason trying to get the whole spectrum, AC, Laser and SRMs seems too unfocused in this game.

Orion, my very first mech, this build will brawl equally to any best mech out there

However it sucks if there's terrain elevation, cause your weapon placement is terrible, so you have to keep positioning in mind way more than with other, better mechs

Also, don't mind armor allocation, I just equipped the stuff you should carry, you should tweak armor according your preference

Could try to mimic the IICs and go with quad large pulse lasers or try mini Atlas with AC20 and SRM6 and some MLs, or gauss and ERLLs.

Overall its not the best thing out there due to those low mounts, non Atlas level structure and armor, death by XL, and generally being outclassed by other mechs in its weight range.

When I was running Orions (to master them), for the OINK I went with AC20, 2xLRM5s, and some medium lasers. 300STD.

Basically, you have to play like an assault, in that you need to pick when and where you commit. The LRM5s help give you a bit of range to contribute in the early game, but most of the time you end up shoring up a hole and giving some poor sod AC20+Med Lasers.

Not great as a playstyle but works.

Orion Protector is my most used mech. I spent an absolute fortune on every engine, XL and standard, all different weapons, everything. I settled on 3 LL and an AC 10. Tempted to try 3 LPL since they have been improved a while back.

With 3 LL and an AC 10 its a decent mech. Takes practice of course. A lot of practice.

Tips for all mechs.

Turn down mouse sensativity in game by half or more.

Front load armor in the extreme, strip the arms mostly, most of the time.

Use standards in anything slower than 130 kph.

Don't run to hot...

In slow heavies and assaults, once the fights on its on, don't bother torso twisting to much or trying to evade other than moving lateral at full speed, or backing into cover, survive by taking the targets down.

Always fight from cover.. best armor in the game.
