The canon Quirks are not weapon specific, but apply to any weapon loaded in that weapons bay or hardpoint. Like the, "Improved Cooling Jacket", quirk for instance.

Weapon Accuracy could apply speed to projectiles including PPC's.

Weapon Operation could apply reduced jamming chance for UAC's or lower duration for Lasers as well as reduced Cooldown times.

This would allow more variation to how players design their mechs and add the same type of interest that Mechlab does.

If they were ever extended to some sort of player XP earning incentive, players could apply a limited number of Quirks to a mech with each new Quirk costing progressively more XP to add and capped at a reasonable limit per mech (2 or 3?). This would add depth and something for players to be earning with the XP mechs generate without making mechs that over-powered.

Yep, the combination of quirks and modules for entire weapons systems, plus perfect multi-weapon convergence, actually necessitates boating in order to be most effective.
