So i had an idea earlier, after perusing the store page. We can buy all these mech packs and crap, but you know not everyone would want to throw money at new mechs...

How about PGI diverts some of that time and effort into... Map packs, like other online-only shooters do? We know they have a team working to give old maps facelifts. They can and should just give us new maps. Like, dozens. That'd be cool.

I don't know about you guys but I'd slam down 50 bucks, maybe even more, every few months for a couple new maps, preferably in pack form.

Has this been discussed anywhere? All i can see is salty rage everywhere.

What do you other dudebros think?

You are joking, right? Map packs=more buckets=hahahahahaha. Have fun getting a match when people are split up between what maps they do and don't own.

Let's say PGI collected some funds for more maps and such.

How would it work? If you incentivize it by giving some players special access to the new map(s) then that's crap, and if you just depend on players to essentially donate money towards new maps then I would be surprised if more than a few hyperwhales bought into it.

Would there be some sort of goodie pack with really low value (meaning probably no mechs) for people to buy to contribute towards new maps or something? I doubt anybody would go for that since mech packs are enough of a ripoff as is.

I don't see a practical method for players to fund new maps.

Horrible idea. Not only because people are already paying for their mechs to finance the game, but you would also only have like the last 10 paying customers who are left by now waiting for a match on their new maps forever. There are not enough people left to populate the servers right now - what do you think would happen if you divided the playerbase further into paying and non-paying customers?

They should release an SDK for map creation, give it to the players and run monthly contests. The map team could then pick the best, give it a polish and QC run over and put out at least one map a month. In addition the rewards wouldn't need to be astronomical to get people to participate (say 1000mc for the winning map.) If maps cost 250k and you can slash that down to 1000mc plus a QC check they will have better revenue. Hell the map team could give a theme and let us run with it.

Not salt, just a bad idea. How many times would you get to play the map you bought if only 10% of the players bought it?

At 70k to 250k a piece for a map they would need a lot of whales to pitch in

Imagine how wonderful it would be if the map was in Beta...

What they could do is sell a warhorn bundle, like the tournament package, but with proceeds going toward developing more maps.

I wouldn't buy any map from pgi not even if it was fifty cents per map. Their map design sucks with lots of empty space, glaring geometry giving one side an advantage over the other or poor choke point funnels. Just look at how little caustic valley and terra firma are chosen over polar walk-to-center and frozen-snipe-here-city.

map packs for lobby use. yes. It would be the only way we get maps representing the Invasion of Terra by WOB. England. Egypt. Moscow. Jump jetting over Pyramids would be cool.

No, because it splits an already small player base.

Reality ain't salt.

All exclusive map packs do is make the MM issues even worse.

umm, i dont think the player base is small

2. no, we dont want to start buying things that should be a core part of what moves the game. Also it probably wont change the rate at which they are made.

People are already playing in their own leagues and tournaments in the private lobby. Get them made for only lobby use, but if they are unique maps, like I described about Terra, they are only used if there are fights on Terra. A Capital City map, only used if a Capital world is being fought over.

MM has nothing to do with this or would there be any impact.

Quake used to give out a high end GPU for each map that won one of their contests.
