PGI has hasn't even made the simple fixes to MG's in the .xml to take them from worthless to decent, and you expect them to adjust the .xml files to add improved JJ's?

Didn't say I expected them to do that, just that it would be the easy way out of creating new variants while still bringing something new. Although it looks like Russ has stated it'll all be new variants and nothing new:

i dont understand the hostility that asking people to pay for exclusive access to new content brings out. its how mechpacks work. development needs funding. mech packs fund themselves and that enables new mechs to come out every month and keeps the servers running. bringing out new tech should also fund itself and future developments and game improvements. the way to make it not p2w is that at some point that tech needs to be made available for everyone. if i have to wait 4 months to get a hag40 while getting shot at by hag40s, thats preferable to never getting a hag40 ever.

Paywalled mechs are acceptable, but paywalled weapons? That's just asking for trouble. Doesn't need a rocket scientist to see that.

Tech release is going to be messy. If they release an IS UAC20, will we not be able to equip it on the old mechs? I.e. the 95% of mechs already in the game?

If the new weapons and tech is limited to new mechs, the P2W debate will melt Russ' twitter account.

At this point, I don't really see the endgame for PGI's business model, except to sell single-player PVE content as DLC or restricting Solaris esports to players with Premium time. There's only a handful of mechs left that would keep the power creep going, such as the Blood Asp. I'm sure they've made the mech pack process very cost-effective now compared to when they started, but sales must be dwindling. Decals are quite cheap, so I don't think they bring in a lot of revenue, so much as compensate for the lower sales of camo and paint in 2016 versus 2014.

I guess I wouldn't be surprised if they followed your suggestion and made new tech available only via mech packs and supply caches, but there would be a sh*tstorm of biblical proportions, and they would probably need to revert their decisions, like they did with the initial concept for supply caches.

Why couldn't you release the new tech on older mechs? If you look at the 3025 Sourcebooks I don't recall the Gauss Rifle being a thing and there were no ER PPCs or Pulse Lasers either. Hell there were no DHS. Fast forward to the 3050 Sourcebook and you have pretty much the same IS mechs as in the 3025 books but now all of a sudden they are new variants that have been "upgraded" to use ER PPCs, Gauss Rifles, Pulse Lasers and DHS.

I think people need to keep in mind that many of these mechs used by the IS at the outbreak of the Clan invasion had been in service for over 50-100 years and had went through many upgrades and refits to keep them current and relevant. This is kind of like how the M1 Abrams has had a M1A1, M1A2, M1A2 Sep. v2, M1A2 Sep v3, etc upgrades. They all use the same general chassis but the equipment and in some cases protection has been modified and upgraded.

Point it, there is no reason why a Battlemaster manufactured in 3025, couldn't be modified to use MRMs, Light PPC or UAC20 and still be relevant and useful on the Battlefield 75 or even 100 years later. The basic chassis tech hasn't changed the much so only the mounting would have to be motified and in most cases on successful designs, it would be cheaper to motified and existing mech than build a new chassis to use the new weapons.

Note: Speaking new tech, I would love to see them start adding it in. I mean I know that it would disrupt the meta and require new balancing but the be honest, there is just such a limited variety of weapons and equipment in the game that outfitting a mech, any mech, has gotten a bit boring. I mean it has gotten to the point that it only takes a glance at the hardpoints of an upcoming chassis and know exactly what configuration is going to work and what isn't going to work with the only thing different being the geometry and hitboxes of the mech.

No new tech, folks. They have nothing in the pipeline to add new technology any time soon.

That's my point. You could release new tech on older mechs. So why would I buy the Uziel to get an IS SSRM6 when I could just buy that weapon for my Griffin for 300,000 c-bills or whatever.

How is PGI going to use new tech to make money, without triggering the P2W debate?

Oh ****, the Mongoose. Forgot about that little thing. I'd throw money at my screen for a Mongoose. My wallet would open for just about any light 'mech at this point but my wallet would projectile vomit bills for a Mongoose.

I agree but what would Advanced JJs and Heavy Lasers look like in MW:O?

PGI could simply revert the jump jet changes and call those "Advanced Jump Jets."

I'm desperate enough for a new light 'mech that I'll take anything that's under 40 tons. Legit. Even if it's an Ostscout with 1 energy hardpoint and that's it.

I'm not quite that desperate. But with 30 tonners being about the right size atm... I'd suggest the Javelin for the IS. It has missile massacre and pew pew variants. Plus it's one of the few TRO3025 mechs we don't have in mwo.

But if they are burst fire like the Clan UAC's, how to balance them against the clan versions? The Clan versions weigh less, take up less crit space and has a better range....

cUAC/20

Range 360m
weight 12t
crits: 8

IS UAC/20

Range: 300m
Weight: 15t
crits 10

Less burst rounds. Otherwise when you can double tap 10s for 40 nearly pinpoint damage (like the KDK3 before ghost heat change) it will be even worse than when the KDK did it. At least with the 12 rounds is sprayed over you you could twist like help and run. 40 pts in 4 shots would ensure that damage would be a help of a lot more dangerous.

your post well illustrates what is wrong with this way of thinking:

fix issues first, then do weapons.

game has infinite issues. therefore issues can never be fully fixed.

logically, this means no new weapons ever. you might as well just say that you dont want new weapons.

i think the solution is instead accepting that there will always be issues. this is true of every software product on the market. from the cheesiest mobile games all the way to multi-thousand-dollar pro software. it is unrealistic to demand perfection. you have to ask yourself if an issue is worth fixing more than doing something else to add depth to the game, like more tech. people still play the game despite the issues, even game killing issues. all that is wrong with fp for example and people still play it.

if you fix a long standing issue, say hit detection. then that 1 out of every 10 or so ppc blast that goes through its target or hits the wrong section might go away. the most you are going to do is suppress a little bit of salt. most players are probably not even going to notice unless you say something about it. if you add a new weapon, everyone is going to play around with them, try out new builds, put them on their older mechs that they never run anymore. its going to add a lot more to the game.

I wouldn't think that way if they didn't do the things they have and continue to do make me think that way in the first place. Saying all games have issues doesn't excuse PGI for their negligence of long standing issues. Besides fixing something was left useless or broken for years on end wouldn't be anything to give them credit for either even if they did decide to after all this time address the neglected issues.

Would new weapons give the game some extra spice? Sure, but how long will that last before the same issues filter their way up to top? Not very long. if you think new weapons would be mounted to obsoleted mechs people don't use anymore is funny because that is part of MWOs problem as well. New weapons won't make a big enough difference for the long term. They would spice it up short term and maybe be a distraction for a month, maybe.

MASC at least had the reason of being "hardwired" into variants not to end up elsewhere.

But the MAD IIC they just plugged in five (4+Hero) variants that don't actually exist.

Sky's the limit now.

the loadouts were very disapointing. laser vomit with minimal ballistic and missile points. gee i wonder what other mechs i have that can do the same job. damn it, ran out of fingers.
