since MW2 Mercs you allways salvaged enemy mechs and were able to pilot them and or you could just buy whatever mech you wanted.I never felt the restrictions of the factions you were part of. You had full access to the games "itempool" especially when you salvaged a new "never seen" mech there never was a general or scientist who even mentioned you could use the mech for something different than blowing stuff up

Yeah, but that was 20 years ago.

You'd think we'd have made some progress since then.

Sorry but you don't really want IS omnimechs. It has a reason why most MWO clan pilots prefer clan second line mechs.

There is no timeline.

Russ declared (after we all realized it was coming anyway) that MWO is not set at any specific year in Battletech history. They threw it out to sell more gundams and because having an ISN with regular lore-based news reports for immersion was too much of a bother.

Wanna buy a mech pack?

Might as well remove the game time. https://mwomercs.com/clock

Strike another Immersive feature gone.

Good Clan omnis are still popular. Kodiak-3 though, was in another league til the UAC10 fix.

If they ever introduce IS omnis they are pretty much going to HAVE to create new construction rules for them that are different for the current construction rules for Clan omnis. There's just no way around it.

I'd think they'd be similar to clan omnis, but with the following guidelines.

1) You CAN change from a standard to XL engine, and visa versa.
2) You CANNOT change the engine rating
3 You CANNOT change Endo/FF/etc.

Simply because like some people have said, IS XL on an assault is damn near suicide. It's not entirely lore accurate, but for game balance it might work out without making the inflexibility too outrageous. Maybe you swap out a center torso that has an XL for a center torso with a standard? Or if people find that outrageous, maybe swap out side torsos that have a locked XL? Throwing out ideas that may or may not tickle various fancies.

I for one think that if they do something to address the standard/IS XL concerns in some meaningful fashion, or quirk the side torso structure on locked XL assaults, that we might have something that's at least fun to play with.

Also. Bushwhacker. MW3 players, let the nostalgia flow through you...

What we have now is getting closer and closer to a Star Wars arena game where your Darth Vader character can team up with Qui Gon Jin to fight BB-8, a Droideka and Princess Leia. I mean, that's not even an exaggeration. QP is just random Battletech stuff thrown together without context.

Who needs all that crap? The timeline, Empire, Rebellion, light side and the dark. That's not what made Star Wars great. E-sports is.

"Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for E-sports by your side kid."

But... Just an observation: in actual successful E-sport games like Counter Strike & Starcraft you still don't mix Terrorists and CTs, Terrans & Protoss, or simultaneously have Human Kerrigan & Zerg Kerrigan on the same team.So 'lul E-sports' isn't a very good justification for tossing every bit of lore out the window either. Not sure what exactly pgi's goal here is except bilking money out of suckers who buy the next dead end mech pack, which gets superceded shortly by whatever mech is next in line.

I think we should look at it like this. The IIC versions are from the 3055 Source book which means we should start seeing some of the never before seen IS mechs coming online, mechs like the Wardog, Cerberus, Berserker. No they don't offer much more than what we already have expect unique geometry and role play aesthetics but I have to say these are the mechs that would convince me to start playing IS mechs again just because of the lore.

However, I won't deny, I would love to have some new tech to breath fresh life into the game. The current Meta has gotten a bit stale and I would love to start seeing IS mechs getting access to different caliber UACs, MRMs, Light PPC and such as well as seeing the clans start getting access to Rotary ACs, HAGs, AP Gauss Rifles, ER Pulse Lasers, etc.

I mean I know it would require alot of balancing and PGI still doesn't seem to quite have the balancing dialed in as is but the game is getting a bit stale with no changes going on expect new mechs.

Only other thing I could think to add new life would be adding huge maps, with 2 hour time limits that have actual missions for each team to accomplish but I have a feeling that adding new weapons and equipment would be easier.

The only thing the MAD IIC shows is that if you already have a model and a flimsy excuse to refit it with Clan hardpoints, you can sell another mechpack cheap.

Hauptmann is as slow as Dire Wolf and has no endo.

Black Hawk KU has only 17 tons of pod space, 5 locked 1 ton hoverjetsTM, no endo and fixed IS XL engine meaning that you don't need to shoot CT to kill it, just pop one ST and it's dead

Men Shen is a bit better but still what are you going to do with 17 tons and 10 heat sinks?

Energy heavy builds with lots of DHS on the hauptman can make that less of an issue.

KU... could be good... if PGI quirks it a bit. Ok... a lot...

Men shen... ECM+masc means I'd make a brawler of some sort.
