Greetings Mechwarriors. Today I have a simple question. Did PGI forget that they had promised to revamp the skill tree from the ground up sometime around... now? Specifically, following the mediocre™ changes for Phase III of FW.

Forget? No... they never intended to revamp the skill tree.
Come on man, you've been here long enough to know better.

You'll get an answer in 60 to 90 days... after 60 to 90 days.

I can't muster the energy to be sardonic anymore.
The cold hard answer is that Russ said in the latest town hall that skill trees will be revamped. At some point which he did not specify. If I recall correctly, it sounded like it would come after Information warfare revamp and Heat scale 2.0. But since he did not give any dates and since we probably won't have roadmaps that go more than ~3 weeks into the future for a while, there's simply no way we can know for sure.
If we're trying to be really objective, without falling into the traps of the bittervet or the white knight, I would say that it's very likely that skill trees will be updated some time in the period between November 2016 and February 2017. I would also say that it's very likely that the skill trees will not be the way we expect them to be, and they won't be the way PGI outlined them in 2011 / 2012. They will most likely be a lot less complex than some of us had hoped, and they most likely won't be a game changer.
So the good news is that we will probably get new skill trees within 6 months. The bad news is that it probably won't make a big difference, because MWO hasn't really changed all that much over the past 3 years and it's unlikely to go through big changes at this point.

This is a joke. 5 years after the game launched with a pointless skill tree that has at the very least 2 skills that don't even work they are gonna all of a sudden be able to revamp it to matter? This would be a huge cluster-F@#% with balance if they do this properly. The skill tree has been one of my biggest reasons to display their incompetence so by all means PGI take that off the list.
