That's the inherent limitation imposed by a turn-based system. Otherwise in MWO, Mechs would not be able to fire while on the move too.

Yeah that actually never made much sense in TT.

C'mon. Did noone else thoroughly enjoy moonwalking your way through battles in MW2?

Half the fun of a MW2: Mercs Assassin was jetting into turbo mode and going ninja on your enemies.

I totally agree that JJs need some love. It is absolutely ridiculous that 4, 2 ton JJs can move 100 tons at least 75% the distance 4, 1/2 tons JJ can move 35 tons. I mean 4 times the weight should be at least 3 times the thrust right? If we assign 1 thrust for every 1/2 ton a 35 ton mech would have 4 thrust and a 100 ton mech would have 16 thrust divided by 75% which would be 12 thrust. 35 tons is roughly 1/3rd of 100 tons so 12 thrust should be able to move 100 tons just as far as 4 thrust moves 35 tons. Simple fricken logic.

Instead investing 8 tons into JJs on a 100 Assault mech gives them like 25 meters of lift while 2 tons on jump jets give light mechs 3 times the lift. WTF???

I also would have liked to see JJs that allow you to vector in different directions like being able to lift up then shift to latteral thrust to sidestep on to a ledge or actually from a stand still, lift up and then move forward without having to get a running start.

Still I would just fricken settle for JJs actually feeling like JJs. The Only mech that actually feels like JJs are working correctly are the Viper and I wouldn't be surprised if PGI decides a mech that in lore could jump 240m should only be able to jump 50m in game.

No.

These are "jump jets" not thrust vectoring... And these are not Gundoms.

Battletech fluff and table top use jump jets for more than just 'jumping', and can thrust the mech forward or backwards a fair distance, not just up/down. I'm unaware if they were also capable of lateral movement however, so in fact calling them 'gundams' is funny since they are at least capable of part of what you consider 'not being jump jets'.
