The top prize, and bragging rights are not worth getting banned.
And LRMs are a weapon in the game, And although not precise, they are good for suppression and support. Getting LRMed to death is about as annoying as anything in the game. But like everything, teamwork and tactics can counter it.
It helps you and your team if you:
Shoot down enemy UAVs
Hunt down spotters (for the most part lights and fast mechs should do this, not half the team or more.)
Get in close to the LRM mechs (Usually they are great targets for lights.)
Ammo is usually kept in the legs, so go for the legs. An ammo explosion could kill or badly cripple the enemy LRMer.
Use AMS and/or ECM.
Install the Radar derp module
On the other side of that:
NARC and TAG the enemy
Keep target locks if you can
If you are a LRM boat, keep up with your team, don't get left behind.
If you see a teammate in trouble help him by LRMing the guys he is fighting
Always try to keep at least one short range weapon on your LRM boat...preferably an energy weapon.
Install the Target Decay mod, and a Beagle active probe.
The grand majority of my mechs do not have LRMs. However I do have a few notable exceptions, including one with 6 LRM 15s (90 alpha) and well over 2000 ammo. Ya, it's a walking ammo explosion, but it can do extremely well. I remember one game where the enemy players were bitching about all the LRMs we had...and that was just me and a guy with an IS LRM 10. Clan LRMs must be more annoying as they stream out instead of coming out in big clumps....so it's a non-stop garden hose of blue missiles. (Plus I have to fire them in groups to avoid ghost heat. It can do maybe 2 or 3 alphas, but I find that the hit-reg for a 90 missile strike is total crap. Usually barely scratches the armor. Impressive looking though.)
In events like these I like to take out a Kitfox with the 3 AMS (with AMS range and overload mods). If I see a teammate getting LRMed, I just run over and eat all the missiles. I know it's annoying to the LRMer, as I've had it happen to me.
The downside of LRMs is when you get a bunch of guys boating them in the PUGs. No one is going to push or target. So they kind of go to waste. The enemy eventually pushes and it's over. But hey, that's the PUGs. It's random.
If it were happening a lot, I would:
- change to a fast brawler
- Change to a light with tag, UAV, and/or NARC. All those LRMs will chew up the enemy, if they have locks. (especially in the PUGs.)
- Bring out the ECM and AMS
As for LRMs being easy mode. That's yes and no. Depends who your enemy is, and the map.
Oh, and a final note. LRMs can be good for damage, but not so good for kills. The scoring for this event requires kills and solo kills for good points. LRM boats will not make it very far up the ladder.

It's even worse when people don't have (or refuse to use, because they think their voice is ridicule-worthy) their Microphones. You're trying to coordinate with them, but they leave you hanging. It gets even worse when people are stupid enough to turn off the In-Game VoIP. That totally runs up the risk of teammates dying from having to stop to type messages, all while the enemy is trying to kill them, and in turn runs up the risk of their own death and loss. The lesson to be learned is to never disable the In-Game VoIP, even if you can't speak and therefore must use Text Chat anyway, and at least listen for info, communicating what you can with the Command Wheel as well.

But what will they ban? S3B, the guy leading the KDK board, has admitted to being a Tier 1's alternate account created specifically to club seals in tier 4/5 and game the matchmaker system.

Under the rules, I believe that is considered cheating where this event is concerned.
As is having your buddies on the opposing team (in group play) hand an easy win to you. But that's for PGI to find and deal with.
If ya have a lot of money in the game, it's just not worth cheating. Plus cheating makes the game boring...no challenge. Not to mention not fair or fun for other people.
And with all the people recording games these days, it makes it extra dangerous to cheat. Plus the ability to report it in-game now too.
That being said, I don't think too many people are cheating. At least not the ones I see in the higher tiers. It's been many months since I last suspected anyone of cheating from what I actually saw in game. :-)
In any case, that's PGIs domain to deal with. I'm just there to play some stompy robots and have some fun.

Just one lucky turn out of tunnel on Crimson Straight and some lucky "hero" got 6 solo kills, by complete coincidence even luckier assault on my team got 7 kills walking in to the enemy team from other side of the tunnel, I'm off course doubt that any of this people knew each in any way, after all there so many different unit tags and factions in pug matches. I think its just a matchmaker doing its job of putting two best pilots in different teams for sure.
Such amazing, one in a thousand game can only happen during low pop times in solo que, no need for group que at all, and no one can prove anything or do about it, brilliant plan .

Please, PGI, remove or lower the importance of pure damage dealt as a contributor to the score.
Two possible fixes I would love to see evaluated:
1) Only Damage done to the component that finally kills a mech contributes to the score (i.e. only damage done to last leg, when mech dies due to losing both legs. Or Damage to the head or rear left ST). In an ideal world, this would also include the "Kill Most Damage Dealt" contribution, when only Damage against the "finishing component" is counted. That should stop mindless farming and endless showers of LURMs.
2) For an assists, establish a minimum amount of damage that needs to be dealt in order to be counted as an assist, like for example 5 or 10 points. Even better: couple this to the "finishing component" as of above and put a timer to it - like 30 seconds, in which the mech has to die in order to be counted as an assist.
I honestly have tried this: Single shot of 1×cERLL netted me 7 (!) assists thanks to it's long burn time in one match. That's ridiculous.
