Coming Heat Scale Troubles

the heat scale system coming up is more intuitive but works in a similar way to ghost heat as it is present in the game now.

your weapons have a heat that they produce - and if you go over that magical number in this case 30 damage (in ghost heat case it depends on the weapon, lets say 3 ppc cause ppc is 10 dmg)
you say OH NOES I WENT OVER TEH MAGICAL RANDOM NUMBAR
and the heat comes out of nowhere and overheats you and you EXPLODE.

but here's my question - why do we not use this opportunity to balance weapons' heat by damage so that 30 damage of all weapons look alike!!!

instead of magical barriers, why not change the heat so that:

3 ppc damage = SOME HEAT
2x gauss = the same ammount of heat!
6 medlas = the same ammount of heat!


and just balance the BASE heat of the weapons like this again. into a new weapons heat scale
that actually MAKES SENSE.

it doesn't matter that these weapons are best at different ranges, lets make them pay the same heat for the same damage! (except for ER weapons)

cause lets be honest the cooldown for the different weapons is already different according to their range, and your positioning has to be different also. let's get rid of these magic barrier heat spikes

The issue is that the toys are going to be replaced with other, better toys, just like the first wave of Spooky Heat™.

never did i bring up a single mech. i said take the new system and make it not about an arbitrary number you must remember while you play -

just make weapons FOLLOW that arbitrary number as baseline.

so that 10x small pulses would be the same heat as 6x med and 3xppc.
it's enough with their different usage and feel and cooldown that heat can be similar or the same.

it gives the same effect as heat spike in ghost heat or power draw. except there's no spike.
and no arbitrary number to remember.
it just works.
it's more elegant.

Works similar to ghost heat? where did you hear that. People keep repeating it but nowhere is that substantiated

no there hasnt been a sing word on it yet.

Might as well call this the Sandpit effect. making a thread about something and drawing definite conclusions about an item we have no good info to go off on.

that's what we know about it from what i heard

we shouldn't have a spike system.

we should have a linear heat scale

So OP, I don't know if thats a great idea. There are other factors with all of those weapons, so giving them all equal heat per damage wouldn't be balanced.

Whooa, please correct me if am wrong but I saw the guy who made that chart. Thats not stated by Russ or anybody else

I keep seeing this magical number of 30. Did Russ personally confirm this?

So throw away range, rate of fire, type of fire, ammo, etc, etc?

PTS is gonna be fun then. Assuming people would actually DL it and play on it, instead of forum-warrioring.

people say ugh the gauss and ac20 use ammo! the ppc is SO CONVENIENT!

but no.

energy weapons max damage is 11, ballistics go up to 20 damage. i think that's enough to pay for the ammo usage right there.

as for ac5 and medlas the rate of fire is faster and i think that's pretty good. but if not that can be tweaked.

rate of fire can be balanced to range.

it's a case of too many cooks in the kitchen we got here except in the form of variables - right now.

Sorry man.. its all in your head. You are so far away from reality.

Are you actually using TT range values as justification?... you think anyone would waste a precious AC20 rounds to toss it down the range for 3 damage?
