Hello,
I've been a loyal MWO player for a little over two years but honestly I'm not a big forums guy so please excuse me if this has been asked and answered.
PGI has done a pretty good job of bringing in a lot of new mechs and they've been pretty fun. However, I've always felt they are missing out on something. We all have the option to run around in the trial mechs and get a little taste of something else out there that we don't have. Why not a trial of the current preorder mechs?
For example, the Marauder IIC (beautiful beast) preorder. You get the initial wave of players who want the goodies and the extra stuff that comes with any package you want. You keep that, its a good deal as you get to buy in bulk stuff you love. Then you have the countdown week at the end. What if you let a simple run-of-the-mill stock variant (no hero, no champion) be available as a trial mech and it can only be played in quick matches? You can get tons of metadata on it for any last minute balance tweaks and you'd sell a few more than you would otherwise. Sure you'd have a weekend where the bunch of matches are full companies of Marauder IIC's but it'd be worth it.
What is the community take on this idea?
PS, PGI if you like and implement this can i please have some Phoenix Hawks?

On the flip side if the mech is medicore, and there have been several, it would hurt sales.

I don't think the mechs are ready when they are announced. The dev streams are a good indicator for that. Why would they do the work on live stream if it was already done?
So the idea might be good (or bad, depending on the performance of the mech) but I don't think it would happen. The huntsmans missile tubes were shown in a dev stream not too long ago. So the huntsman wasn't ready, when he was announced.
The Trails keep stable for a longer period. It would mean changing them on a monthly base. Might be another point speaking against that system. Especially if there were a few clan or IS mechs in a row it would cause some imbalance that would not be really good.
But that are all speculations. And even if they did add the mechs, they would need to get all the quirks and so on right. Because if they lower them before release or add some... many might want to get their money back.
