Ok folks, need a bit of info.. Was looking at this package,, Mauler.. Yup, main reason to me to buy the pack, 90 ton dakka, (i own victor, stalker, atlas) None of those can do dakka,
The other 3 mechs, i have similar..
Wolfhound Vrs Firestarter, I see no JJ's, but wolfhound has faster movement, Quirks mean a decent ERLL, or a pulse/ML boat perhaps? Pretty fast too. so more longer ranged over the FS?
Crab vrs Cicada or HBK-4p and sparky..? Crab looks to be a decent MPL/ML boat or Large lasers.. typical energy boat, but quicker than the others? Kinda seams like the sparky would do everything it could, and the HBK is the king ML boat?
Black Knight vrs Thunderbolt.. They seam very similar, but BK has a bit more tonnage to play with?
Do you think those mechs play different enough to warrant?

The Mauler is great with dakka and has to nice variants that support that.
The Black Knight is still a good chassis. Its a pure energy boat and right now, it's a very decent Mech. It's not as overpowered as it was, but I would spend money on it, if I wouldn't already own it. It plays different to your Thunderbolt, more like a Warhammer.
The Crab is very good. It has a few different styles and I love it. If you have a Thunderbolt, they are similar, the Crab is just lighter and depending on the loadout hotter.
The Wolfhound is rather meh, especially after the resize. I play him only as a Skirmisher but even at that, he is only mediocre, compared to other 35 ton Mechs.
In my opinion, this package is worth it. Don't forget, you get 4 color packs with it that are a few thousand MC. Depending on what you ordered already, you could even qualify for the ECM Stalker from the 2016 loyalty program.
Do it.

Only have the Crabs and Wolfhounds.
Crabs are above all, really, really sturdy. They roll damage very well, if you run STD commonly sticked, and you'll still have 3xML/MPL in typical loadouts. I love them as ranged fire-support builds, even though the weapon mounts are low. Favourite for this is my CRB-27b, though the CRB-27 with 2xERLL, 3xML, 2xAMS is also fun. I see others running them with bigger STD engines and boating ML's or MPL's, and I'm sure that's valid also. I think some people go XL, but that always struck me as a missed opportunity, because they lose side torsos so often and pack good firepower in CT/HD.
My Wolfhounds I haven't played much. They're kind of interesting with largish STD engines, as they can take a ton of damage, and like Crabs, can retain weapons until the late game. But that's a "light medium" play style through and through.

Everything you buy, aside from the Mauler, will only have energy hard points with the hard points being in almost exactly the same places. They also come equipped with lawnmower engines. Be ready to spend.
Whatever their structural advantages might be, the wolfhound crab and BK are the oatmeal of mech grinding experiences.

in my esperiance, the Wolfhound is inferior to the firestarter but still a good Light Mech.
the Crab is one of the best medium Mechs, in my hands it is by far the tankyest medium, and can run an XL relatively safely, more than once have I survived a match at less than 20% in an XL crab.
the Black Knight is pretty good, and it got me my only game so far to break 1,000 damage, I survived a match at about 35% with 1114 damage with an XL engine Knight although this was before the rescale
the Mauler is too slow for my tastes, with max engine I find it to be painfully slow, but in general I am not good with assaults.

The Mauler and Black Knight are particularly good.
The crab and wolfhound are also good, but relatively not regarded as highly as a Black Knight or Mauler relative to their weight classes.
Solid pack either way.

Mauler...nothing to say about this
-- BlackKnight: After release it had issues with its hitboxes and was hardly playable. After a fix it was the strongest IS Heavy before Marodeur and Warhammer and after them still one of the top 3 pretty much a thing of preference.
After the last quirkening and the Mech sizes got effed up its a mediocre energy boat. Not unusable but with strong downsides. Large torso, low hardpoints mediocre agility.
-- Crab: before the quirkening and the resize it was one of the most survivable medium mechs. Sleak elongated torso good speed and agility, decent weapons and heat management.
Now its so so.
-- Wolfhound: The most oversized light in existence.
Over all I do not think the pack is worth buying anymore.
The mechs have been damaged too much by the quirkening and resize to be of great value anymore, the amount of money you have to invest to get them up and running is excruciating and with the incomming heatscale 2.0 or energy draw I would be pretty cautious to buyenergy heavy mechs.

Its wearth getting as all the mech in there are good. I must admit I actually like the Wolfhound a lot. Put 6x MLs and a big-ish STD Engine and it becomes super tanky for a 35T mech. Sure it only trully shines when you Elite it but it's really durable and forgiving. I'm not really good with lights even though I like them but the STD Engine Wolfhound build works very well for me.

I'm buying the R2 pack a step at a time as funds allow, I'm up to the Black Knight now. My opinions so far:
I hate the Wolfhound, but I'm not a light pilot so take that with a grain of salt. I sold the two standard variants and put mechs I like in those mechbays.
The Crab is good and sturdy. I like it and need to put more time in with mine. Only thing is all three variants are so similar that I might end up getting rid of one or two of them, depending on how badly I need empty bays.
The Black Knight I've been enjoying the most so far. The low mounts leave something to be desired but it's still a solid performer. Again, all three are very similar.
Honestly, though, I don't think the mechs alone are worth buying for real cash. What makes the pack worth it to me is the faction content. At the top level you get 36 colors, which would cost a ridiculous amount of MC to buy individually. I'll probably never need to buy more colors again. Plus you get the faction patterns to use on the chassis in the pack and some cockpit bling for extra customization options. Add in some premium time to boot. These things are what give me value for my money.
If you don't want or need the extras, don't buy the pack. Just grind out the c-bills for the mechs you want. For a newb like me that had basically nothing, this pack is well worth it.

honestly, this right here is my biggest temptation.. the 2 months premium, and 36 colors, + 3 assaults i know i will like.. Along with the loyalty mechs, that i know i would like.. MASC cataphract energy boat, Yes please! Stalker with ECM, thank you again!
the other 3 are more of what i am trying to decide on, but playing around with the builder, I can see how the energy boat wolfhound with an STD engine could be a lot of fun for a tanky light. (something i don't have as i fun FS's with XL's, but honestly that might just change due to the new size)
The crab with an STD, i'll bet zombies like a champ with 3 MPL's in CT+head,, the BK, i dunno, perhaps it has potential, but I do love my TDR's,, maybe i'll like it,.. make it some sorta pulse boat or something.
Gonna wait a bit to decide, but you all did give me some things i didn't think about so thanks..Gotta see how money is next month, but just might be able to grab two Packs if all goes well, then i will be set for the next year, with out a doubt!
