Hi.

I returned to Mechwarrior 2 weeks ago, leveled some medium mechs and decided to take on Atlas that was collecting dust in my hangar for two years. It was fun, so I decided to level third assault (in addition to Atlas and Awesome) and Zeus is the one I liked.

But now I can't seem to understand in which direction to go with it. Not as though as 90+, no high weapon mounts, no jump jets, profile is still big...

Any tips and builds for ZEU-5S (the only one I have at the moment) and recommendations on what to buy next will be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Well, I haven't played the Zeus (But I want to), but it seems to have potential as an old-style brawler. What I mean by old-style brawler is Large AC + SRMs + Medium Lasers. Sadly, the Zeus cannot mount the AC 20, but it can mount the LB10X, which is almost as powerful in a brawl. Here is a build I have concepted for ol' thunderfist.

i don't have the zeus, but here's an idea, just take it with a grain of salt -

how about peeking left with this mech? seems like you could stand behind other mech and walls and peek left and have a pretty decent arsenal working from there. both in dps and alpha strike mode. but again - no real clue since i don't got the mech.

i shaved off the right arm's armor completely for weight savings. it seems like it would be a fine mech to do that with. i don't think people are missing your torso much anyways. that arm has a single missile hardpoint too. just forget about it.

build may need tweaking ammo-heatsink-armor values. need to have the mech to test that

ZEU-5S

The armour values on that one frighten me (though I suppose the 5S has superb structure quirks)

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...bf155bfc6f8d6d4 for a brawler. or
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...56d05f36a7f9f3c for medium lasers instead of the smalls

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...79788e5a85d4eb5 for a fast one, but without an autocannon (~75 kph)

Or a more "meta-friendly"

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...a5c1a3112307455 (or)
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...8108ff511fded0c for ERLL

Or this heretic loadout http://mwo.smurfy-ne...88ac2e70320da11

I'm not including XL builds since it's meant to be a tanker, but that's your call. It's not as suicidal as running an XL on a hunchback, or atlas, but the mech is not exactly XL friendly.

Pick up the 9S next, it might not be as structure quirked, but it can run 6 lasers, and sadly, is far better than the other Zeus variants.

another idea (this time 5s) by foregoing the ballistic arm completely:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...593f8ea2e3f587e

34 dmg on right arm alone, and 33 on ct+left st.

i actually run a veery similar build in the aws8v!! the trick is to use the lasers to tenderize the meat before you go in with the srms.
that's all there is to it. stage 1 is lasers and stage 2 is srm death.

you might need speed tweak just to keep up with the kodiak though. - getting left behind is an issue these days and my rule of thumb is not going under 63-64 kph with tweak so you won't be the last guy trying to catch up.
so 300 rating engine should be the slowest you can possibly want to go

a different approach to design:

directives:
1 - use ALL hardpoints.
2 - put the biggest weapons you can field on as many hardpoints as you can.
3 - use all slots.

sacrifices many things including plentiful ammo and artemis, so it may need testing; (as usual)

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...d7aaf94e9e72e8a

so you would maybe use the lasers for trades as their own weapon group, and then the ammo based weapons for up close fights, similar idea to the build i posted before. as long as you don't spend too much time poking and commit at the right time to going in, this should work - but i am not sure how well. i think the previous 3LPL build would be more solid once ammo runs out though, but this one is less dependent on missiles, goes faster and has armor on both arms. again - not sure how big of a benefit this is on zeus.

The zeus has the best shield arms in the game, so it matters. (according to Navid A1's analysis, Zeus has the "smallest torso exposure from the side" of all assault mechs in the game)

Any build not using full armor on a mechs torso's is junk. You're sacrificing the wrong things.

I mastered out the 5S with this build. It's solid and always puts out dependable damage.

It's tough as nails if you learn to use use the entire right side as a shield. Given the massive structure quirks, by the time they eat through your RA and RT, you've killed and maimed multiple mechs.

Not going to argue with the tough as nails thing, but that loadout is pretty wimpy for an 80 tonner and a single UAC5 just means more facetime and less shielding, which just makes your left sided ness a problem. Many good players in this game know and WILL target that Left Torso.

Known fact that the Zeus has SRMs in the right hand and B/E in the left and all it takes to know what to shoot is to press R.
