I also have the King Crab mech, another Atlas, and a Centurion (which have some weird rope things on them, not sure why)

These are loyalty reward mech with (L) in the end of their variant name, given out by PGI to anyone who have spend money on the game a few year back. The rope/thread of life and female figure on the camo are the Fates (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moirai)

Anyways, I just started playing again, and I really have no idea what I'm doing. I have a feel for the controls and all that, I just need to start improving my game.... a lot. I'm not sure what I should be playing or even what tactics to use in this game. I seem to die pretty quickly, and not do a lot of damage Posted Image

I'm really digging the catapult
Here is how I have it set up

Since you are focusing on LRM, they are a good way to farm some cbill but not great at getting kills.
Don't let the name "Long Range Missile" fool you.
They actually work best at mid-range, around 300m to 600m.
This is due to the travel speed of the missile, at 180m per second, the further out you are, the more time your target have to find cover.
Artemis IV system also needs you to have line of sight on your target to be active.
You are best as a secondline fire support, standing a couple hundred meters behind the frontline assaults and rain on the enemy.

CPLT-C1
Your loadout is ammo starved and only have a pair of medium laser as backup.
I tweak it a little so your LRM last longer and your backup weapon have been upgrade to dual Large Laser.
I downgrade the LRM20 to LRM10 to conserve ammo and increase fire rate.
You now can fire 54 volley of missile compare to the previous 36, with reload time of 4 seconds versus 5.5 seconds of LRM20 (before counting missile cooldown quirk)
An extra Jump Jet is added for more lift for when you want to jump on a building to have clear firing range.
I also increase your armour score from 320 to 400, and front load them to better withstand frontal attack.

also, what is and how would I get the Elite mech skill level? I did find Smurfy's mwo mechbuilder and have been fooling around with that, but how do I actually get that, and the other things for it anyways?

Mech skill are tweak to a mech to improve its performance; i.e: higher top speed, better handling, etc.
Mech mastery skill work like this.
1. You only unlock Basic skill on a variant, until
2. You unlock Basic skill on 3 variant of a chassis (ie: 3 different catapult variant)
3. Once you have done 2., you can now unlock Elite and Master skill on those 3 variant.

Is there anyway to upload screenshots? I'd like to post both of these.

I use imgur.com to upload screenshots, then link it on the forum using the

Basically, early access user, beta / (or even alpha in some other games) user/player.

(oh and also regarding OP, immediatetly enable your voip in the setting if it is off, but i'm sure this has been mentioned before)

^^^^ this. I was looking to see if anyone else posted about mouse sensitivity. Set it 0.1 to 0.2. I am glad we do not have to edit a file but I wish PGI would default it to at least 50% mark.

I play with an adjustable mouse too. and the new equipment (keyboard and usb headset adapter) should be here tomorrow.

I think for now I am set for a bit. Just gotta learn what each mech can and cannot do, and set them up properly. I've been playing around in Smurfy's mechlab, and have a few ideas I wanna try out. I do want to get good playing the founder mechs though. Also looks like I need another Atlas, and to focus with those mechs first.

once Iget a few more mechs and learn to play them, I think then I'll be ready to start looking at faction play. For now I will take the 7 day "deserter" and lose nothing in the meantime (the temp things are faction play wise, and the permanent this is something I had 0 of anyways, so I can't lose what I don't have.) Since I'll just be quick playing for a bit anyways.

Also, is it just me or does this forum really limit how many posts you can make. Or is it this subforum? It really got annoying trying to post when I was playing with specific questions that I now don't remember because I'm no playing, but not being able to because I "ran out" of posts.

No posts until you have played 1 game, then 5posts/day until you have finished your cadet bonus of 25 games, iirc.

As for adjustable mouse and sensitivity settings, many here also have adjustable mice but had to use a low DPI settings to get a steady aim without your cross hairs moving away too quickly from the target.

gotcha. I will have to get to playing then, I think I only have like 10 played.

I did have to play on the lowest setting, but that felt comfortable when playing. I will probably turn down the in game setting and see about compensating with the mouse's setting. I like to keep it on 2 for general use of the computer, 1 seems sluggish and 3 and 4 are way too fast.

As a general rule your mech has too much armor on the back. Most run a little less than 10 armor on the rear and some go all the way down to zero, but I don't recommend that. You can also lower the armor on your head a bit and spread that around to other components.

Oh, and WELCOME BACK!!

Hope to see you on the battlefield.

Go to YouTube. Lookup the channels for Spike Brave https://www.youtube....tNUCKmcC0Q7pKJQ and Kanajashi https://www.youtube....zvQ8eyONcWuGZRw

They both have some wonderful tutorials. I am more familiar with Kanajashi's than Spike's as far as pointing you to specific series of videos within the channels, so...

On Kanajashi's channel, watch several of his Steam F2P series from the beginning. This was following a new alt account he created from very first thing in the game up through getting ready to hit Faction fairly well all using only free options in the game. Obviously grinding events and spending a little on MC (mainly for mech bays) can make life much easier. Also check out his role warfare videos as well as his older road to CW (Faction's old name) series if you are interested in how Faction works.

Spike has a ton of good tutorial son various subjects in the game as well. STRONGLY recommend both of these channels for any new players or players coming back after a long break and getting caught up on the changes in the game.

With the high default in-game mouse sensitivity... The cross hair literally moves like 1mm per pixel... So if you dont adjust it, hitting even slow moving assaults becomes difficult... (Which is why so many new players gravitate to LRM weapon systems, because any other weapon becomes impossible to use during a fire fight).

Trust me, slide the bar far left. Just to give you an example; I run mine at .16~.18 which is basically all the way left!
