I wanted to toss a thank you to PGI for this last event, I really enjoyed it.

What I enjoyed the most about it was that I got the play the mechs I wanted to play not having to worry about shooting down missiles or getting solo kills in a light mech or any of those activities that forces you to play very specific mechs in order to complete the event.

I also like that the event wasn't a complete push over. I am not saying it was hard but it did require much more time to complete than most events and because of that it gave me a reason to log in, play and actually work toward goal rather than just be something you could knock out in just a few hours of play.

Overall I really like this format and it caused me have a very enjoyable weekend in the game.

Ever since they abandoned the "must kill+win+survive" model, things have been far less toxic during events. Even the kill conditions aren't as painful anymore, because they either require solo kills or allow KMDDs as a substitute for killshots, which dis-incentivizes the friendly-fire inducing killdiving that used to happen when kills were required.

Y'know. Just to reiterate how terrible things were back then, and how much better they are now, before someone inevitably drops a post complaining that they miss the "good old days"... when half your team would ragequit if they didn't think they were going to get their point that round.

Keep up the good events, PGI!

Yeah you mentioned an number of pluses I forget to bring up in my OP. It is so nice not to have to compete for kills or have a crazy challenge like get a headshot. I can't count the number of games I totally played like crap in because instead of just trying to keep the enemy as fast as possible, I was constantly looking for that perfect headshot. Probably played like 20 matches were I was barely braking 150 damage before I said, "This is just silly" and gave up on the whole thing but I really didn't do my teammates any favors in those twenty matches, instead I was just dead weight because I was trying to complete a challenge rather than win the match.

‘‘Twas good, the only complaint I have is that it encouraged very assault-heavy teams, often with few/no lights and mediums. I wish lights and mediums could get a flat multiplier for match score and cbills, to make them a more attractive option for farming, but ah well.

yeah, the headshot thing is a fun idea on paper, but problematic in practice. Don’t worry, you weren’t the only one.

A note to everyone: [Redacted] Because, while it’s not in the spirit of a challenge (and I like using the events to challenge myself), it’s much nicer than gimping your team match after match, because you do silly things trying to line up a perfect shot. Sure, if you’re good with your gauss, or there’s a shut down mech, go for it, but don’t hurt your team doing so.

i played the event in 4 mechs that i was leveling. none of them were exceptional stand outs, but i got them about a third of the way done. now im waiting for the event to end so i can play games without the kill farming.

I am not super fond of the "twitch" based combat style of light mechs but honestly, I don't have a super issue getting the good ones to perform. I have never found that I really make less match score or C-bills by playing a light and when it comes to C-bills often times I can make more because it is easier to take advantage of flanking, hit and run and things like that with a light mech. I think the issue is that lights take more skill or at the very least a special kind of 'Twitch" minded person to play and if you don't have that going for you, they under perform. If you can make the transition though, they can hold their own no problem. Mediums though can be challenging as there are only a few that I think can really output the numbers you want to see consistently.

Yeah kind of the same for me. I just played 4-5 variants I have been working on skilling up. That is what I liked the most about the event, I could play what I wanted to while working toward completing the events.

Well considering not one of the mechs I was playing during the event had LRMs on it, I am not sure how it is a LURM event. Seemed to me lasers, PPCs, SRMs and autocannons worked just fine to complete all the tasks. Hell I didn't even use ATMs.

As far as why I am thanking PGI, well that should be self-explanatory, I like the format of this event much more than the previuos formats which tend to require me to rebuild mechs to be AMS platforms or mount precision weapons to increase the chance of a head shot or maybe play a light mech when I want to play a medium mech. If you don't give some sorta of positive reinforcement, then it isn't likely your going to see similar events in the future. Sorry if you see it as brown nosing and considering how critical I am of PGI and the decisions they make, the only people who would consider me a brown noser, must be on an island.

You obviously missed the memo, you are not allowed to say anything positive about PGI.

But yea, it was a nice easy event, Basically play your favorite mech or what ever you are leveling andd get some nice extra's... the horror!

I didn't have time to play this one, but last weeks was another nice easy one that got some folks an extra mech or two. Maybe i'll have to log in and play for a couple hours tonight, Probably able to tick off a good 3rd if i could squeeze in an hour or two. Maybe they will extend this one a couple days like they did the last Posted Image
