I basically quit playing due to these maps and crap vision modes.

But I will say there was little to no effort for them to use time of day as it is merely a check box to select in cryengine when making a map.

I like having time of day in the maps, but can't understand why they kept the accelerated time instead of a 1:1 time scale.

This. If they are worried about having all the maps happen in daylight, just pick a few set times for us to drop on so we see the dusk/dawn/day/night periods.

I liked it better when it was random...for example: getting caustic at sunset was a really interesting experience where you could use the position of that blinding sun to good strategic effect. Now its just like playing with a "time lapse" environment running in the background. More of an oddity than anything I actually pay attention to. Just another example of wasted potential in my opinion.

i like the dynamic time of day because it add some life and flavour to each map. they should keep it. i think it's neat to see it change while you're in a map. you know that sometimes the darkness turns to light, right? and not just vice-versa? it's not even really an issue considering it affects each player in the match regardless of which side you drop on. it's not an issue, it's an inconvenience for players who have to press 1 extra button and make a minor adjustment to gameplay. i'd like the change to occur a little bit slower, though, as it gives me more time to take my night time sunglasses off.

Ditch the "dynamic" part of it, and i'm ok with them.

As they stand now, i absolutely ******* HATE it.
The accelerated time-scale is absolutely RIDICULOUS and is absolutely, positively horrible performance wise.
Seriously, the game runs a solid 60 fps, right up until it gets to the Dawn/day, dusk/night transitions, during which the game starts stuttering and the fps drops to single digits for long enough for me to lose a brawl or run into a wall and fricking DIE.

If it randomly picked a time of day and STUCK with it, i'd be totally ok with it, but none of this dynamic ****, if you can't do it right...

Yes, I prefer my maps to be more realistic, less plastic and fake looking.

I like dynamic time and weather it changes things up, and I can finally have a reason to use the other vision modes other than just pressing h and n for lol's.

No.

Night and specially thermal vision make long to extrem distance sniping impossible.

You simply cannot see sh1t.

You just cant.

its ugly, you cant see anything and nobody I ever talked to or texted with ever once said 'yeyy....dark maps are fun'.

No wonder.

They even had ginormous performance drops on the old frozen city. Hundreds of ppl complained and whined - including me - that you get major fps drops when you run through those misty clouds or steam or what have you.

Even when I got my new rig I was totally happy. Smiling when I ran up mwo for the first time with the new system. Finally my ancient piece of sh1t pc wouldnt prevent me from showing off my jedi master skills.

And then what happens?

Tell me what happens?!

I run through the godless steam and with my fantastic new rig (all fps killing features like AA turned down completly or turned off entirely) with newest patches and updates and all other modern games running flawlessly, I get friggin major fps drop.

I more than meet the requirements.

I had all the hardware and all the updates.

I had what they demanded the player to have on the system requirements but still their program was flawed on an epic level.

I go to the tech forum section and rage around. Demanding that every single employee - even the post man that only delivers mail and didnt even have anything to do with the company but I really didnt care about that - immediatly drop everything else. Like everything.

And fix that stupid error.

I also demanded an official reply from the president and ceos of pgi.

Nobody answered though.

So I hate thermal vision and also night vision.

It was fixed or at least theres hardly any steam left on new frozen city.

Dark maps just suck hard.

And they failed to implement it in an awesome way in this game. They just utterly failed and they take more than 10.0000000 years to fix even major bugs. They simply refuse to do it. And they do not answer when you ask why this thing wont work or when or if they will fix it.

You get the great silent treatment.

So no.

Dark maps suck in mwo period.

Not even god herself - I pray to Aphrodite most of the time - knows why they implemented even more dark maps or maps that feature night time.

Nobody knows. And nobody ever will no.

Its just a random, weird decision.

Like I would randomly say 'ACHTUNG ACHTUNG' ingame.

I wish PGI took things a step further and had random weather. I'm talking of dust/snow/sand storms in which visibility and sensor range is lowered by a lot.
Heat and cold spikes.

Solar flares that spikes heat, messes with sensors and makes infrared and night vision modes useless because of higher heat and bright light.
Or somehow long lasting solar eclipse that makes anything but night vision and infrared useless.

Earthquakes that limits acceleration and maybe topspeed. Your imagination is the limit.
That way we would have some variety.

The weather and time conditions are the maps are fine. Get rid of the sped up day/night cycle.

Make them so when a map starts it's randomly on a weather/day/night pattern and it holds the same for the match. This will add variety. Maybe allow the weather to clear or worsen but leave the lighting conditions consistent for the match.

The game is graphically very pretty, but so often I find myself in situations with really terrible visibility. What point is there to spend all the time and resources on a map like Viridian Bog, then force the players that don't use texture/lighting mods to play blind? I don't understand that line of thinking.

Ive come to love it and have become accustomed to the changes, especially when the sun sets and its time to hit the night vision. Often times in the game when we are dropped, the sun is either in our eyes or against us. Sometimes that can work against you or them. Doesnt matter to me, just makes the game a bit realistic.

I currently hate the Day/Night cycle. What they should have done is randomly generate a time of day, and let that last through the whole match.

Thought it would be cool, but ended up realizing it was stupid. Hour long cycles? WTF? As many have said, they should have implemented it as whatever time of day the map launches, it stays that way the entire round.

Pretty sure PGI considers these 2 maps, if not more, when counting how many maps they have too. Why? Cus PGI, that's why.

The acceleration on the day/night is a bit much, but overall I like it. It actually stands out well on the bog with the weather effects of sunset--sprinkles--rain--calm--fog--sunrise. I'd prefer if it was slowed down to 15 minutes gametime= 1 hour time of day effect, and then broken it into 24 separate time periods.

TOD could make CW more interesting as well if they put TOD in there as well. Boreal would get a lot more interesting at night as the sniper advantage goes away.

Dynamic temps could make Vitric really interesting after dark, if it was like Mercury. Blazing hot under the disco ball, super cold in the dark.

I would have preferred just sticking to one time of day, thus one type of lighting (dark or light) throughout the game rather than lighting change during the match.

That said, I don't hate it. It may be a feature I never asked for, but now that they took the time to put it in, I don't care if they tear it out or not.

I much prefer having different times of day. It helps break up the monotony of playing the same maps over and over again. I just wish the time of day didn't gradually change *during* matches, because it really serves no purpose and just causes a lot of people to lag.

I like it, I'm glad it's in the game, and now with voting it's more important than ever, because it gives some variation.

I do wish it cycled slower, and we saw it in equal measure

While I like time of day themed maps that are tailored specifically to certain times & weather. I'm not a huge fan of the accelerated Dynamic system we have now, but I guess it helps them saves on disk space. As long as that leads to more maps in general, I'd be alright with it. Unfortunately adding maps is so very slow for them.

Yes, I like time of day because it adds realism.

But the cycle shouldn't be as accelerated.
