HGN-IIC-A

OK above is what I have currently because it is not even basiced, and I do not have the cash for the big xl engine (yet). But I wanted to know other people's builds to see if I might like theirs more. As for me this some what works. It is similar to my Summoner builds which is 2 ERPPC in right arm and 2 SRM 4s in the left arm. Sadly though Highlander is way to stiff to use like my Summoner which works well at range and in close.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance. As for some helpful tips for you to help me find a build I like long range direct fire shooting.

Since HGN-IIC is a Clan mech, you need to get 325 XL ASAP. Your current build is still workable.

I did forget there is a clap in the mech.

HGN-IIC? The best build for that is to strip it, sell the parts for a profit, and let it rust in the scrap pile where it belongs.

Get rid of the jumpjets and the ams for a Clan-Bap and more ammo

You also got 4 Slots unused maybe put in some more cdhs

I think I'd probably move the 2 ERPPCs to the torso, it's got a bit better elevation, and maybe swap one of those LRM racks for an SRM rack, because up close against a fast mover you really don't have much to work with unless you're a crack shot with those ERPPCs.

Once you get an XL you can add some bells and whistles like Art IV and a TC, and I'd get some shorter ranged lasers like MPLs.

Quad ERPPC. It runs it better than the Warhawk. Great fire support mech with long range punch. Don't listen to the haters, all the IICs are good.

HGN-IIC is better than the Warhawk in peeking, but Warhawk's CERPPC velocity and heat reduction quirks are important in long range trading as well.

While I'm not so sure I'd call them good, I'd definitely agree that they aren't as bad as a lot of people say. I think at least part of the reason is that they have downsides, (more fragile, not the greatest hitboxes and hardpoint locations, and if built wrong can have severe heat issues).

But if we're being honest, they're actually fairly balanced, as their upsides tend to be the ability to pack on a great deal of firepower for their weight class, and flexible in that they can swap out engines, FF, and ES. In a game where the better mechs have more pros than cons, mechs like the IICs look mediocre.

Personally I like all the IICs I've tried so far, because I can appreciate a balanced mech.

I would convert to lighter laser weapons, install a TAG and upgrade the launchers in size. There is no reason to run PPCs on this particular variant given the number of energy hardpoints.

4 energy hardpoints is pretty awkward on such a clunky Clan mech. You're not going to win an energy trade, and you're too slow to get away. 3 ER PPCs give you good ranged damage without overexposing yourself, and the Highlander IICs fortunately have high mounted, tightly clustered energy hardpoints. Back it up with some SRMs or SSRMs to deal with brawlers or lights.
