I would say a whale is any one who spends above 40 a month on any giving game.
but really whales are tiered as some peeps spend more than 40 while others spends more than hundreds. and unbelievable some spends 1000s a month on games.
Note: im not counting multi accounts for family. im looking at as and per account whole.
but since the average sub for mmos are 20 is month those spending double that can counted as a whale.
(baby whale)
they buy a few extra baubles to compensate their game play above the average subscriber.
then their is those whose spend in the lower hundreds. 100 - 500 a month .. they could be considere your average whale
they get the junk the perty robes and mounts and what not. as well as the extra xp cash or what have you.
then their is the big blue whales the ones who spen upward of 500 - 1k . for everyting they can get their freaking hands on .
and last but not least the Kraken those who spends 1000s on stuff so they can win more in game stuff i dont understand these people . but never the less thank them for supporting our game developers in pursuit of the need for in game Stuff !!
i think that pretty much breaks it down .
those of us who spend the 20 a month or less on gaming are the old fashioned geezers who thought a 19.95 a month sub fee was expensive.

This is what most online game finance looks like.
A mass of free player riding on the back of some spender and few whale.
Once the tip of the pyramid broke, the whole thing comes crashing down and game get shutdown.

A lot of you posting here have a very similar story (+me).
Should give pgi something to think.
So think about it pgi.
I fear them starting doing this actually...

I'm a whale probably, just a bit smaller. I've purchased most of the packs available, and most of the time it has been top-tier. I've purchased most of the hero mechs before they were a thing offered with mech packs even. I've made some purchases for colors and stuff, too. Over the years since being in closed beta and then a founder, I've probably spent about 1k. Not nearly as much as some people, but more than many I'd gander. My spending is being reduced, though, since it's becoming more and more clear that we've gone from actual good progress in development to "we want your money but we don't know what we're going to do with it so we're just kind of hoping the game will die while we still have most of the money and can spend it on blackjack and hookers a few years from now".

and my page 5 thank you
I should really try to get a list together with the most common whale definitions.
I hope many more give their definitions here. There is quite a range of ideas what a whale is and what kinds of whales (or even kraken) there are

I would say a whale is anyone who averages more than $200 - $240 a year. That's as much as 4 or more stand alone game titles or as much as a pay-to-play game at $20 a month would cost.
It could be argued as low as $100 -$120 (2 stand alone games) a year. That later figure is also what a pay-to-play game at $10 a month would cost. But I can only justify that low of a figure because of the limited gameplay and ongoing issues the game has. Most pay-to-play games that cost $10 a month would be bleeding players and die with the bugs and limited gameplay that MWO has.
