I am liking several aspects of this system.
It does feel instantly more intuitive.
You fire more that the safe draw limit and the heat spikes.
You fire groups too quickly and there is a heat spike.
There is a nice audible warning when you do fire over your limit.
Combined with the heat warning, there is an instant way to recognise what is happening.
Visually I like the change.
A slightly more elabourate heat scale with the indicator lines and the different coloured icons is nice and clear.
Attached to the side of the mini map where it was before has made no difference to the display. It's in the right spot.
Overall I felt I could rely on the audible warnings with just the odd glance at the heat scale to see how I was managing.
If I used chain fire or was more controlled in group fire it felt like I was able to use my weapons more and the audible queues let me know if I was getting a bit trigger happy.
I can understand for this pass that the number of gauss rifles you could mount on the mech might be limited, but I also feel that for these weapons the charge up to fire mechanic was far more interesting.
Now that each weapon has an energy value it does allow another way to manage the weapons.
Perhaps when charging the weapon, it drains the energy at the same time and rate. If holding that charge then the energy does not replenish.
This might be a suitable drawback for allowing more than two to fire at once.
All up, this feels very positive.
