Doesn't make sense...you could have somehow had an event that would have required playing on the PTS if you wanted lots of data.

They have an event like every weekend, though.

Not every weekend though...they couldn't have picked one of those weekends instead? You've been here since 2012...how many PTS sessions have we had in that time? Probably can count it on one hand...

They'll probably leave the PTS running for a while. So it really shouldn't make any difference. It's all cool.

The PTS run could easily have served as the weekend's event.

Instead, the weekend's event is going to ensure the PTS is sufficiently starved of players as to render it useless.

Way to go, Piranha.

So your saying they should just cancel the event instead? Don't think all the players who don't want to go installing the PTS would like that. Further they aren't going to go postponing the patch just because weekend events.

Of course it would have been interesting a PTS event but considering that both aren't tied together could be an issue requiring a lot of headache for just a weekend test.

So you're saying that the department/employees that set up the event had no idea that the department/employees in charge of the PTS were going to start running it this weekend and vice versa?

Makes sense, considering the track record of PGI but is also a ridiculous statement considering they are a small studio.

I'm just happy there is a PTS at all, considering how sparsely it's been used over the last four years.

Not so easy.

The PTS copy of your account doesn't reflect back onto your normal account on live so putting rewards in for PTS stuff would require a fair bit of work to make sure those rewards are applies to your normal account instead. Its how they have it setup and the fact they wouldn't want to create a new system for one single weekends test and event.

The other thing is a lot of players aren't going to want to spend their weekend on the PTS so they would miss out. They may be major faction weekend warriors or simply want to enjoy the current massive alpha's for the last bit they can. This would likely be the majority of the player population and many on the PTS would likely only put in a few matches or a couple of hours just to see the feel as well and won't want to feel they are stuck their for an entire weekend as well.

So sure, one could cancel the event or simply not have had an event but these events are ways of keeping players playing and dish out a few freebies to entice players and add in the majority won't be on PTS for more then a little bit to test. Well that just wouldn't make sense.

Seeing as this is a huge change to the games mechanics, this PTS will probably be up for weeks with this build and then get several iteration of changes until PGI and the community see it as an improvement over the current system.

I guess most people will focus their time now on the event, but after that there will still be extensive testing going on.

Wuxian.... that would have been the case with the normal developer 10-15 years ago. However today more then likely within a week the patch will be forced out and they will tune it once its live for a month. Sadly that is how game development has gone these days.
