Maybe the best way is to provide the option, like in Planetside 2, where you can choose to have these meters near the reticle or in the traditional location as a settings option.

I found it an annoyance to have to move my eyes off target to see how my power meter was doing, so similar to how the MASC bar was moved up near the reticle it would be nice to have the power meter there too. Of course in doing that, it might even make sense to have the actual heat bar up there too.
