I have an idea for an event which could either be ran as a series of events, or preferably as a single, one off replacement for FP over the course of a week or month.

So, here we go....

Setup the "Alliances" discussed in other threads:
  • Players/units choose between the following, depending on the format it may be necessary to lock the choice for the duration of the events if ran over multiple weeks/weekends.
  • Federated Commonwealth Alliance: Davion, Steiner and FRR
  • Kapteyn Concord Alliance: Kurita, Marik and Liao
  • Crusader Clans: Jade Falcon and Smoke Jaguar
  • Warden Clans: Wolf and Ghost Bear

Each Inner Sphere Alliance has three Faction capitals:
  • Rasalhague, New Avalon and Tharkad
  • Luthien, Sian and Marik

The Clans Alliances have two capitals:
  • Botany Bay and Richmond
  • The Rock and Manaringaine

To give balance and to add a little twist, each Clan Alliance also has a 50% stake on Tukayyid.

The main objective of each Alliance is the capture of three enemy faction capital, the first Alliance to do so will trigger the final event/battle; the invasion of Terra and the recreation of the Star League by force of arms.

  • A Clan Alliance must hold Tukayyid and capture two of one enemy factions capitals to initiate the invasion of Terra. For example the Crusader Clans must claim Tukayyid from the Warden Clans. Then either take the other two Warden capitals (The Rock and Manaringaine) or push for two Inner Sphere capitals (Rasalhague and New Avalon for example).
  • The Inner Sphere Alliances must capture any three enemy faction capitals to initiate the invasion of Terra.

The final battle:The Invasion of Terra, will be fought between the invading Alliance and ComStar.
  • Players/units affiliated to the other Alliances can choose to either join the invading force or to participate as the defending ComStar forces.

So there it is..... things like rewards, challenges, leaderboards should be added to provide incentives beyond the Lore based aspect. While perhaps providing one off Cbill/GXP/MC payouts for capturing or defending planets and even allowing successful units to "tag" them could also be added.

What do you think?

What do you mean by "a series of faction capital conquest matches". Makes sense to consolidate the population and to do it for an event could be a pre-cursor to a more permanent arrangement. I just don't get what were fighting over.

OK, yeah that was a little vague.

I'm not sure if it should be a league style event; each factions capital world be fought for in turn and a point system used to place individual pilots and units on the league table. Or done as a straight conquest/campaign style, in a tug'o'war style contest, if faction A captures faction B's three capitals they can attack Terra and the players get to choose between the attacking alliance or defend as ComStar.

Either way it would be good to tie in Tukayyid as a requirement for the Clan alliance to hold as a matter of honour, providing them with a third planet to be held if they wish to capture Terra.

(Sorry hard to type long messages on my phone at work :( )

OP edited to try and explain it better, it is still a little bare bones and is dependant on the restrictions of the programming involved.

I would think that you'd need to run it as a two pronged event, IE

stage 1 - Faction Capitals

stage 2 - Terra

With a period of downtime between stages in order to tally objectives achieved, etc.

Agreed and there would HAVE to be population balancing from PGI, whether by means of communication with the leaders of the larger units or by some gated system.

Incentivise early sign ups. From a forecasting POV it makes it easier to work out which faction needs what, and it means that you can adjust the rewards/intervene early if there is an excess of signups for one faction, but very few for another.

Similar to when they varied the rewards given in the mini events they ran for FW based on player population - Liao had an extremely low number of players, so they offered MC to participants from liao, whereas for the FRR/Smoke Jag populations (which were active at the time) they only offered cbills.

Variable rewards, early adopters benefit.

I feel like I should say would you like to buy a mechpack. :P

With the possible consolidation of "buckets" this looks like more of a possibilty, would it be interesting to most folk?
