My suggested tweaks:
.) Increase the amount of time it takes for the energy meter to replenish. Add a consumable similar to cool shots that can "amp up" a mech briefly and make the recharge faster for those few moments. This will give players more options when considering to balance heat vs power draw.
.) Take weapon ranges into consideration! Small lasers are basically unusable because they still follow 1 damage = 1 "power point." Clan and IS ER boats and PPC boats are MUCH stronger in the power draw system and can keep up a VERY considerable DPS.
Solution? Make small lasers around 1 damage =.4-.5 points, large lasers 1 damage = 1.15 points, and ER larges 1 damage = 1.3 points. Obviously these aren't final numbers, but it would certainly help hash out game balance by adding in a range factor.
.) Increase heat penalty exponentially instead of following a linear function. This won't decimate things like the 4 ppc warhawk, but it will keep them from firing all four ppcs at once and slipping back into cover for little to no return fire.
.) Mech quirks! Everyone knows the Awesome is supposed to be a fearsome PPC mech, so reduce the penalties of PPCs specifically for a PPC awesome (forget which variants field 3) so it can also fire its backup weapons! Likewise, the Executioner and Nova are well known as laser boats, so make their exponential curve slightly less harsh compared to other mechs.
.) Remove weapon convergence altogether or remove it when the power meter is constantly empty. Honestly, my vote is for removing it completely, except for on mechs with both upper and lower arm actuators. Torso mounts should ALWAYS shoot directly ahead.
.) Introduce stronger heat penalties for constantly riding that 70%+ heat line. Slow mechs down, start melting internal components, destroy overtaxed heat sinks, cook ammo and gauss rifles (yes, setting your gauss rifle on fire should be a thing and it will prevent safely riding high heat with such a cool weapon), etc.
.) Most of these changes hurt brawlers directly, so make SRMs and small lasers generate less heat and draw less power to keep their relevancy and deadliness in the face of a sniper.
.) Don't hurt LRMS more than they already are. They're garbage weapons with the way they are implemented and they are even worse under power draw. I don't think they should contribute much to power draw unless you're firing 3 or more.
