Having tested it in Testing Grounds plus Quickplay here some feedback:
Adapting to it is not a big issue and a question of minutes. Lights and Mediums are fine by default. Heavys are usually not affected if you split your alpha into weapon groups with 1 second delay. Assaults however often need to change their builds.
Lets take a Mauler four LBX10 Build with two medium lasers for example. On live its a high risk/high reward build as its only effective at close range. You would eventually fire the two medium lasers in sync with the lbx as a small bonus for the alpha. Wtih the new system on PTS however, speaking in Smurfy ghost heat terms everyting is a linked weapon group.
So because everyting is a linked weapon group and you have a fixed optimum of 30 (20) DPS it s forseeable that people will boat to reach those 30 (20) and sustain it as long as possible. It will often be pure laser spam, pure LBX/SRM, pure Dakka. The current ghost heat system rewards mixing dakka/lbx with some lasers/lrm on top, the new system pushes boating.
Sure there could be some tweaks to the Energy Draw system like a raised cap for Assaults for example. However the core issue of the Energy Draw system remains: Everything is now a linked weapon group. So from my perspective a tweaked Ghost Heat System would eventually be better and certainly less risky than a Energy Draw System.
