I liked the Gauss charge mechanic and think that it should return. Obviously this isn't agreed upon by everyone, but I feel it could be returned to the game if certain features are added:
- Add in a 'one click to charge' function. Lets say this takes 1.5 seconds to charge. Once charged, it stays charged. A second click will insta-fire it. Compromise wins!
- Eliminate the 90% crit chance on the weapon when it isn't currently charged. This will encourage the Gauss' use, while still having risks for people running around with it fully charged to snapshot the weapon and discourage it's use in close range fights.
- Add a static heat cost and energy draw level when currently charged. Clicking to charge the Gauss will draw 15 energy from the pool at all times and bring you up to a certain heat level like your mech does when moving. Once fired, the energy draw and heat incurred by it being charged starts to dissipate. This will discourage syncing it with weapons like PPCs to take advantage of its current state without any heat cost.
- With the reintroduction of the charge mechanic the cooldown time could be reduced to what it was.
