However i'd really like to see alpha drawbacks being separated from heat, as there's no 'real' reason for ghost heat just for firing multiple weapons, and imo better options available:
1. penalty is to systems that would normally rely on availability of energy, such as movement speed, subsystem functionality (IE JJ, AMS, ECM) and reload/recharge times. Basically, going over by say, 20pts (given the 20pt/s recharge) would cause all these systems to be drastically reduced for the time your energy is negative, perhaps based on your % over. So a 45pt alhpa might reduce these systems by 50% for a few seconds, and a 60pt alpha, (100% over the 30pts) would mean 100% (or maybe a max of 90%) reduction in all the above until energy levels become +ve again. This penalty may need to be something more drastic, see final paragraph...
2. introduction of a energy storage component similar to heatsinks size/weight, such as 'capacitors'. these would enable the increase of stored energy (ie max alpha) by ~1-2pts each, but obviously by taking up weight and slots that would otherwise be used for larger engines, heat sinks or ammo. This would effectively reduce the DPS/speed/endurance (ammo) of high alpha builds while still allowing them, and provide more flexibility in builds.

forgot to mention that i think the current changes place too greater penalty on brawlers such as srm builds, despite the .75 multiplier. most srm builds are imo 'just' competitive now, with the 4srm 4/6 limit, reducing this to 3 for srm6 seems a bit of a backwards step imo, though thats just initial impressions.

these are just ideas on how i'd prefer the penalties to be applied, as apposed to the exact #'s associated (ie a 60pt alpha may need to result in a 90% reduction AND a 50% reduction in recharge times, so 60-30=30pts to recharge, at 50% recharge speed of 10pts/s, so 3 secs of 10% everything, for example). Primarily i'd like to see the complete removal of any form of 'ghost heat' as i dont think is a realistic or 'best' way to penalise high alphas - i want to still see alpha buids, just make them into effective glass cannons/sitting ducks as a penalty, rather than suiciding/self harm with ghost heat. Moreover I'd like to see a movement away form 'hard limits' on anything (like being limited to 6ml, or 4srms, or 3LL etc). Variety is the spice of life, after all!
Im interested to hear others thoughts on this though.
