So I'm accumulating lots of "extra" mech xp on mastered machines ... is there anything useful that I can do with this xp, aside from converting it for cash? Anything like the "accelerated training" option in WoT?

Jeps, it's quite funny when you look at the exp of your popular mechs. I have 300k on my Mist Lynx.

No - excess chassis xp can be only be burned with MC to build your GXP pool. Every so often they do a double conversion weekend (often coinciding with a 'mech release or sale,) so you should wait until that happens to maximize your gains.
