I don't mind energy draw, but I don't think it improves upon ghost heat enough to justify going forward with it. I do like the HUD changes, and hope that makes it onto the live server goes either way.

I don't think this "core design principal" is being met WRT potential heat penalites. No where in the HUD do I see guidance like "if I fire this weapon group this will happen to my heat". This could be done on the bottom-right weapon panel (and the targeting reticle) similar to how the weapon groups change color depending on the range to the object at the HUD center and the particular weapon (effective range vs long range vs too long to damage) there can be some kind of indicator whose color changes for each weapon group.

Example: If my current heat is "green" (< 25%), if I alpha my AC/40 CPLT-K2 the indicator on the weapon panel will show yellow, as firing two AC/20s gives me 44% heat. This same information can be on the targeting reticle by changing the colors of the six blocks.

This can only work on individual weapon groups, so a pilot will still not know the result of firing more than one weapon group at a time. But it's a start. A possible "con" would be the constant color changes (rather like Xmas lights).

You'd need to mock up a suggestion, really. The HUD couple be improved, but its not simple.

Do note that the mechlab shows the energy draw of an alpha strike in your mech stats(bottom right by firepower, heatsink count, etc)
