Greetings.

I wish to post my build for my CDA-3C here.
Be aware, I dont care for approval or disapproval. I also dont really believe in the boomcada with dual AC20. Go big or go home...? Please...

This is just a fun build, on a mech that is really not competetive in any way.

My Cicada CDA-3C "Doombringer"
* Left torso: ERPPC, double heatsink
* Head: 1 ton AC5 ammo
* Right torso: AC5, double heatsink
* Right leg: 1,5x AC5 ammo
* Left leg: 1,5x AC5 ammo
* CT: XL200, BAP
Why the BAP? Well, because I figured that I had enough ammo for the ac5, and I also have enough heatsinks (2) so I was left with 1,5 free tonnage. I could have put in more ac5 ammo, but I decided I wanted to be a bit more teamfriendly and install a BAP instead. Also usefull for your ERPPC.

Standard armor, maxed out except for the arms (-8 points = 1 ton).
Double heatsinks.
Endosteel.

I also have 2 modules on this mech:
- advanced targeting decay (I know. It comes from my hunchback 4J; the lrm hunchy).
- AC5 cooldown level 5 (-12% cooldown).

Heat: 1.51 - Firepower: 15 - Speed 81 (speedtweak 89.1).

And just ro reiterate the quirks for this 3C:

Ballistic cooldown: + 25%
velocity: + 25 %
Energy heat generation: - 30%
Energy cooldown: + 20%
ER PPC heat generation: - 20%
velocity: + 50%

I want to point out this: today I played a game on HPG with this 'slow' cicada and I had a game with 1028 damage. In this mech. Unfortunately I dont have a screenshot to actually prove this, so I could be blowing smoke out of my ***...
I had spend all my ac5 ammo; 120 rounds.

I also tried different things with the 3C.

* 1 medium laser, 2 ac5
* ERLL/LL, ac10
* ERPPC, 2 ac2
* 1 medium pulse laser, 2 ac5...
* And a few other things too, but that didnt made it into existense.

Even though everyone of these is fun to play, they are just not as effective as this ERPPC/ac5 combo.

Hell, I even tried shoehorning a gauss rifle into the 3C... Didnt really work out... 2 reasons: not enough ammo and just a single medium laser or pulse laser as back up. I never took the gausscada to the battlefield though. The other versions I mentioned I did.

They are fun mechs, but I regret buying 1 cicada; namely the CDA-2B. The 2B is just a less capable 2A in my opinion.

The 2B has 1 less energy hardpoint compared to the 2A. I am planning to replace the 2B with the 3M once I have saved up enough cbills.
At the time that I bought the cicada's I had just enough to buy the 3 3 million cbill ones.

PS: I also had fun with the cicada 2A. 2 medium pulse lasers in the centre torso and 4 small lasers in the side torso's... Worked surpringly well. XL 230 or 245 I put in that mech.

I have already received positive comments in game chat. That cicada is a beast. That is a nice cicada etc... That made me want to post this build here.

And I know I should use smurfy, but to be honest I dont really like that site... It just doesnt work real well. It takes ages to adjust armor points etc etc...

PS: I would also like the erppc cooldown module. But thats 3 million cbills, and I need my cbills for the 3M. I will get rid of the 2A and replace that one with the 3M. Me wants that ECM.

@OP

I've written this a few times by now to others that were "struggling" with the C3. The C3, the dark sheep of the cicada family or perhaps the whole mech lineup, perhaps thats why its one of y favourites. I've ran multiple missions with it, i believe its close to 400... Lets say i have some experience.. and i have tried a few things.

The Cicada C3 is at an odd place, the multiple ballistics hardpoints are hard to utilise since most ballistics are pretty heavy, on the other hand you have just one energy hardpoint which (together with missile hardpoints) are most suited for light or light-mediums. That's why the C3 gets SUPER ErPPC quirks, any build that does not use this weapon is already at an disadvantage.
Further more, because its a light medium you don't have the real armor of the bigger mediums nor the size of a light, there fore you need to find a real good balance between speed, armor and firepower. Lastly, the C3 has great accelerations and deceleration quirks, which allows it to poke like no other mech can do - really!

A build with 4x machine-guns is very speedy but machine-guns and poking do not go together... The ERPPC shines at range but doesn't have the firepower for a close range brawl where the machine-guns can be used. This weapon combination has bad synergy and there fore not the best you can get out of the C3.

You need to fund a weapon that amplifies the great ERPPC, which can be used to poke at range but also to ad some dps when you do have to face another much closer. Also, you need to have speed to be able to keep your range.

An Ac2 allows for a big engine but is not really a poke weapon, to make use of this weapon you need to stick your face out there way too much...

An AC5 perhaps? Thats more like it, at range it adds 5 damage to the 10 of the ERPPC, a pinpoint front loaded damage of 15 is not that bad... also, because of the ballistics cool down quick (25%) you get some pretty nice dps out of this weapon as well. Treat the AC5 as a damage multiplier, shoot a round when you fire the ERPPC, and only pling away when supporting friendlies and you can "afford" to stay out in the open like that... If you use it like this, you don't need a lot of ammo either.

Mixing this all together:
ERPPC
AC5
AC5 2.5T ammo
XL 285
(drop armor of the arms to 0 and head to 7)

You now have a great poking machine that goes 125km, enough to keep distance to all most mediums and heavier.
You now have a great poking machine that does 15 pinpoint damage and also has a decent dps for a 1v1 with a light.

Happy poking!

EDIT:

Sorry OP, i have posted my reply in the wrong threat LOL, there was another threat from someone that was struggling with a C3. Anyway, always good when people share their ideas, from all my experience with the C3, my opinion of your build is that is way to slow for high tier games. It may work out situational with the right team around you, but in the long run this will not last long enough.
