My unit members were making fun of how I said a "Ebon" in game as I pronounced it as " EE-Bon " like "EE-Bonics" ( Ebonics )when it makes more sense to say " EH-bun" like "EH-bun-ee " ( ebony ) Now my way does sound ridiculous and funny but I would hear "Evan" most of the time In game from others. So the main point here for discussion is similar humorous mishaps of pronunciation in game you have heard or also the consensus on how certain Mech Warrior/Battletech terms are actually sounded. Example is Liao , " Lee oww "? Or " Lay oww?" Etc. I even pronounce Davion " Dah-vee-un" and other it's "Day-Vee-un " Discuss!

I think I pronounce Ebon with a short E, but I pronounce Davion like you do.
Then again English isn't my first language.

Apparently, decals in the MechWarrior Online universe aren't "dee-cals", they're "dekkils"

When pronouncing the phrase "Mechwarrior Online, A BattleTech Game", BattleTech is silent.

Call it simply "Cauldron-Born". Posted Image

That's how both the Clans and the Inner Sphere know this 'Mech.

Not my first language, so I just make stuff up as I go. English has such a convoluted relationship between spelling and pronunciation that there's only so much you can do.

I have no idea how you're supposed to say Cicada. My instinct says See-KAH-duh, but maybe it's see-KAY-duh.

Liao in Chinese would be LAH-oo or something like that I think. Most people seem to say lee-AH-oo.

I'm a dekkel man all the way.

We native speakers also just make stuff up when we are unfamiliar with a word's pronunciation. Your second example is closer to how we say cicada though.

Sih-KAY-duh... Night Gyr, I haven't the foggiest idea about though. Could be Jire, Jeer, Jir, Geer, Gire, Gur.

Davion is pretty much french "d'avion" so I pronounce it as such. ( Unless I'm on comms and want my english fellows to know what I'm taking about :P )

Liao = La-ooh ( jss78 probably has it better than I )

I know I will probably forever mispronounce Night Gyr however...

But it seems to me that sources in BattleTech universe usually pronounce it without that "Day-"
