Was reading over the patch notes today for the 15th....and a couple points struck me as downright silly.
The first point was "AC/5's are over-performing" Lol wat? I very seldom if ever see anyone fielding ac5's of any number any more unless a particular mech has quirks specifically for that weapon. The Mauler used to carry them very efficiently and it got nerfbatted to hell. King crabs? Massive convergence issues with the wide mounted/low slung arms means half your fire will miss, and the other half will smack into the dirt right in front of you. Its only useful for mowing down slow moving mechs. or people not paying attention and sitting still.
The second one concerns the dire wolf. The devs ACUTALLY think the dire wolf is performing well. No torso twist angle, no mobility quirks anymore and its still reeling from the pilot tree nerf. As a hardcore direwolf driver I can tell you that mech is trash now, only good for suprising the enemy with dakka at short range or Long range gauss/laser combos. In most if not all situations you are a liability if you pilot this mech. Its too slow to bring its guns to bear now, anything not within a narrow arc in front of you is unhittable due to the torso angle nerf and twist speed double/whammy from the removal of mobility quirks, and the pilot tree nerfs. Then the wide and easily sectionalble left/right/center torsos do not lend well to your survivability. The mech only has guns. Thats IT. thats ALL the whale has going for it.

Data? What Data?

When PGI starts using words like "data" and "testing" you should hear "lying".

If you had read the patch notes instead of skimming them for things to be angry about, you would have noticed that they say AC/5s are over-performing compared to AC/2s. Which is technically true. Whether how they're balancing those weapons is a good way or not is another conversation.

The Dire Wolf is performing well. It's still in the top 5 as far as assaults go, probably more like top 3 - There's an absolute ton of assault mechs that are doing worse then it, like the Highlander and Victor.

remember too, what may be true in higher tiers are not in lower. It is probably that PGI is looking at it's metrics as a whole, and is concerned still about the new player experience and retaining newer players

Which is a huge problem if true (and i imagine it is) because balance by potato is no balance at all. At the very least, PGI should completely ignore metrics from T4/5 games when looking at weapon balance. You balance the game by looking at people who know how to play it, not those who are learning.

You must realize that the balance data used came out of a test session that almost no-one played, featured a game mechanic that changed the fundamental nature of the game, could only support 4v4 play, and presented dozens of specific changes in such rapid succession there was not even sufficient time to properly determine their effects.
So business as usual... balance by poorly educated guess.
