As a Founder who hasn't played since beta and then got back in a couple weeks ago...IMHO hold off on buying packs for a bit. You got about a dozen free trial mechs and they rotate in and out. Try before you buy. I started with lights (my favorites from tabletop) went to assaults (meh) tried heavies (better but not quite for me) and have settled on mediums for now.

I play mainly IS, the Clan stuff is too confusing for me for now.

Be sure to experiment with the Academy as well. Its a good testing ground.

Protip:
Download the PTS and experiment with virtually anything for free.
On the PTS you get 2 billion Cbills and 2 million MC to play with.
Sure, you have to deal with power draw (aka ghost heat 2.0) but you can still get a feel for things.

I went and purchased every hero mech just to mess arround with.

Those are incentives to pre-order mechs before a certain date. With the Marauder IIC package, it even comes with an extra mech which is always nice.

Honestly, your best bet is to likely do a $20 package like the Archer or any of the Inner Sphere heavy packs. Best bang for your buck, and if you end up really enjoying those mechs, you can upgrade them and get the hero mech later as well. Hero mechs have a unique camo pattern, a unique hardpoint configuration and a 30% bonus to your c-bill earnings (in game currency).

Shame on you Lorian for recommending the Archer. We will have words next time I see you on Discord.
