I am wondering if you are going to post something from time to time once you get situated at PGI. Most if not all of us didn't even know who was previously leading CW design until December 2015 and we didn't know they left until months after the fact. Posted Image

The unit I am a part of, Mercstar, is sort of hibernating right now as far as CW goes. At our peak back in 2015 we had 2 to 5 12-mans dropping on a regular basis more or less. We cratered pretty hard after phase 3, mostly due to greatly increased wait times, lane voting breaking access to hotspots, and quickly running out of anything to do before the night was over. A few of our members still hold the fort and lot of them would easily reactivate if someone with fresh ideas gets in there and starts righting the ship quickly. Some of us naturally got a little burned out from a year of going to town on CW during phase 2 and plan to come back.

Can you tell us about your background in PC games, whether you ever came across Btech/Mechwarrior products in the past, and your initial thoughts on Faction Warfare and what you think the low hanging fruit is?

I don't want to take too much of your time but if you popped in and made a short post or a tweet or something once every couple weeks that would probably improve morale around here.

I would second this. It would be cool to hear something. What's being worked on, what's being talked about, anything. Anything at all.

Tweet pictures of what you ate at lunch while thinking about FW.

Not kidding. I'd take it - it'd be more than we've gotten for the last 2 years.

In before embarrassingly silly comment implying that selling products is something a business should be ashamed of do- oh, too late.

The product they are selling isn't really content though. They are selling realigned mechs and a slightly different flavor of the month, Kodiak withstanding. Content is new maps, new game modes, new way of thinking on the FW map, and new ways to try to get player involvement beyond "buy a new mech pack".

To put it another way, if they said "we need 10k to go toward (this product)" and set up a sale akin to their tournament supporter pack, I would be shuffling $5 a week toward them if the pack brought new FW maps, new game modes, new... something. I don't want to help them fund some pot of gold for a tournament I will never play and A TOURNAMENT IS NOT CONTENT. I want content, not a e-peen sport tournament.

Go listen to the round table, but long story short: Derek is the guy who is now directing (responsible for? in charge of? watching over? occasionally paying attention to? passingly familiar with?) CW.

Edit: It's a good thing, because according to Russ during the round table NO ONE has been in charge of CW fo a long time (I think he said since January, but I am not sure...go listen to the archive if you want the exact quote).

No. A mere lack of oversight of the mode would have resulted in Phase 2 just continuing as it was. Phase 3, on the other hand was a conscious act of pure maliciousness intended to remove the community in community warfare, remove the significance of factions from faction play and make sure that a stagnant mode was made even more stagnant by introducing mechanisms that ensured old and new players would have no encouragement to play the mode as a member of a group (unit tax) and that they would never want to play more than once (long tom).

Continued neglect of phase 2 would have been a blessing compared to what they did to the mode via phase 3.

Well PGI did do a few things the community asked for.

People wanted a solo queue so they didnt get farmed by 12 mans. They did it. Nobody used it.

People wanted planets to matter more. They did the MC thing and I know MC was suggested over and over. They did it but it doesn't seem to influence anything so it might as well not be there.

People wanted Loyalists to have something the Merc units didn't. They did attack voting for loyalists and made mercs have different contracts. The thing is, there just arnt enough active players to keep 10 factions healthy.

These are key examples of how things go extremely wrong. Game devs have to be able to make a close product and player feedback should be more about polishing rather than "make the gamemode less bad or matter more so I will play it".

Those are just indicative of design issues which probably cant be resolved by mere player feedback anyways.
