How is this possible?

It would be easier using an ECM mech but you can get behind the enemy by circling around the outside of the map. Then just use a tag on them while they are facing your main forces.

Care to explain the guestion better, the particular situation you refer?
On my first few matches with Dire Wolf I noticed how I can get easily left behind, then on open maps I start taking damage from behind by light and medium snipers, I turn around and I'm still unable to return to fire as they can see portions of me without me having no chance to see them. And slowless makes it impossible to try to see them, they would just hide behind a hill on which they are, and relocate.
So, because no map is completely flat, it's very possible to tag or shoot someone who can't see you. I think the worst map for getting shots like that is the polar highlands. On a large mech specially when you start to get fire, you go down to the trench, but then you have much less limited view. It's still better than stay in open.
But you could also be referring to not seeing the enemy on the map/radar. Someone could see the tagger and be able to target him, but if they don't, they don't. Plus people don't really look much around.
Plus ECM option, but I think you have played enough to know about that.

The tag laser is not always easy to see. It depends on the background color, the lighting, and the angle of sight.

They're all looking north.
You're standing behind them to the south.

Ah, OP is referring to the event mission.
For that it's probablly tag enemy mechs from behind.

it happens quite frequently,
"how do they have a lock for those LRMs, I am not NARCed and am under ECM"
"check for UAV"
"no UAV"
"I think I just saw a light in [grid ref]"
"kill it"
no more LRMs
that sort of scenario is not uncommon, I have seen it many times in group queue, a group will being a few LRM Mechs and a spotter with NARC and/or TAG, all it takes is to stay mostly in cover and TAG a Mech, then when the enemy start looking for you stop tagging and fall back into solid cover

Was gonna say, just be behind said enemy.
Like this.
It is really easy.
To go a bit further.
Getting four guys behind an enemy.

<p>I understand how to Tag, I do it on the few Mechs that have LRMS. And when i do a UAV, i always try it from right behind them. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>What confused me was the " be outside the line of sight of all Enemy Mechs". That to me means "outside line of sight". Even if they freaking turn around. If they had said "Tag the enemy without being seen", it would make more sense. </p>
