Trying to use a joystick setup. I know lot's of posts on here about it....hasn't been a ton of action in a while. There's one 'eternal thread' but it's hit or miss for answers....

I wanted to get some feedback. I have the Thrustmaster 1600M (the most recommended joystick) switched for left hand use. I've got all my controls programmed. Most are controlled from stick except for fine aiming (mouse) and firing weapons groups 1-4 (mouse).

On the top of the joystick is a top hat and buttons 3, 4, and 5.
Top hat is
Up/Down - Heat / Night vision
Left - target lock
Right - Zoom

Button 3 - center legs
Button 4 - push to talk
Button 5 - Map

Trigger is Jump jets

The other 12 buttons are mapped to things like overide, settings, UAV, etc...

I have the throttle to...well...throttle.

Molten Metal said he uses his throttle for his TAG....so it stays on continiously....anyone know how?

Here's a pic...scroll down for setup...

Before you call me a noob for not building my own PC....I wanted a smallish laptop because I travel. I'm also old and playing on big ol' LCD works really good for me.

HP Omen
Sony LED 55"
Thrustmaster 1600
9 button optical gaming mouse

Anyone use something like this?

I use a PS2 controller with Xpadder for my left hand and a gaming mouse for my right.. (with an aluminum mouse pad.. I love this god damn mouse pad.. the only issue is I have to clean it and the mouse feet twice, daily.)

I have WASD to the Dpad, (using Xpadder,) I have throttle100% to up on the left analog, com wheel as right, night vision toggle as down, arm lock toggle as left, (if I have most weapons on my torso, I'll lock my arms because it's easier for me to aim them,) X and O are all-chat and team-chat, square and triangle are consumables, select is minimap, start is leaderboard, L2 is JJs, L1 is weapon group 3, R2 is weapon door toggle, R1 is .. I forgot.. I guess I don't use it much, on the right stick, up is 3pv toggle, left is eject, right is free-look, down is ECM toggle, clicking in the left stick is throttle reverse toggle.. I have a small button on my mouse to the right of the left trigger that is full zoom toggle.. two thumb buttons for VOIP and TS, mouse wheel down for target lock, mouse wheel up for thermal vision.. and the two main buttons for weapon groups 1 and 2.

I don't have any MASC mechs, so I don't have a button for that.. but, if I did, I'd have to move something over to the keyboard.. probably ECM toggle.. and then switch things around. Xpadder can also do complex things, like hold a button down or press it and your controls switch or toggle to a 2nd page of controls.. where you can keep some the same and change others. I really love that program.. and my gaming mouse, which can macro.. but I haven't felt the need to really macro AC5s.. and I don't currently own a 6AC2 Kcrab.

This is how I've played MWO since the third week after installing.

My joystick buttons are a little different though.

Top Hat up/down - consumables
Top Hat left/right - zoom out/in
top1 - battle grid
top2 - target lock/cycle
top3 - jump jets
trigger - MASC
The base buttons control vision modes (i hardly ever use them).

My mouse is a Razor Naga it controls fire groups, push to talk, override, team info, ecm, and scoreboard.

I've been using my old MS sidewinder pro (that came bundled with Mechwarrior 2) since I began. I can't even imagine trying to play using the keyboard.

top hat is all vision modes - night, heat, zoom, advanced zoom
top 3 buttons are jump, armlock, and push to talk (for TS)
trigger is target
one large button on the base I use for overide - I can hit it with my wrist without taking my hand off the stick.

Razer naga for aiming, all firegroups, and consumables.

I also have 4 foot pedals for masc, push to talk (in game), and teammate status, and battlegrid.

When I use tag and I want to keep it on, I just put something heavy on my 4 key on the keyboard. I use a stick with a nail in the end pressing down on it (or as I call it, the redneck tag macro), but a roll of coins should work too. Since I don't use the keyboard it doesn't get in the way.
