After having played the Linebacker in this new patch, I have found that the current game settings (weapon adjustments included) have made running that mech in its stock configurations not just doable, but often very effective. I have yet to try any of my other mechs, but I really want to start reverting some to their stock builds to see if they have truly become not just viable, but also effective again. These

Please share any experiences of piloting stock mechs in the current quick play or FP game types. I'd like to hear if others are finding enjoyment/benefits from returning to stock builds (of course I assume that IS mechs will be upgrading heat sinks at the very least).

Go give your CN9-A a quick stock whirl. That'll tell you how well 90% of the IS mechs do stock (Even after upgrading the heat sinks).

Clan mechs, of course, are a different story. RestosIII said yesterday that the LRM changes have made a lot of the previously unplayable stock Clan mechs usuable.

I almost solely run lore builds myself, and I highly encourage people to try them more often. As a basic summary since I'm a bit busy ATM, Inner Sphere mechs will almost never be good with their lore loadouts for the average player. IS mechs without hardpoint inflation and DHS really struggle with the current setup. For lore loadouts of Clan mechs, some of the good ones are the Mad Dog C, the Stormcrow B, the Nova Prime, the Nova S, the Timber Wolf S, the Timber Wolf D, the Warhawk Prime, and the Warhawk C. I'm probably missing a couple that I enjoy, but those are the main ones I can think of ATM.

If you have any questions about running Clan lore builds, I'm your man.

Vulture prime.

2x LRM 20 with 2 tons of ammo
2x LPL
2x MPL

12 heat sinks, armor scaled back quite a bit

I've run the Mad Dog Prime a bit since the patch, it's "usable", but anything past that is lying on my part. Now, the Timber Wolf Prime? It feels like it's finally doing some damage. 2 ERLLas, 2 ERMLas, 1 MPLas, 2 MGs, and 2 LRM 20's, with "decent" ammo for the LRMs. The Mad Dog Prime runs too low on heat sinks, ammo, or armor.

Warhawk Prime is also rather good, if you have any trigger discipline what so ever... 4 ERPPC's+TC Mk.V = awesome!

Might want to re-read my post, Warhawk Prime is in there. And I keep the LRM 10, really wish it was on the shoulder joint or top left of the turtleback instead of the hilariously bad and nonsensical position under the arm.

I pilot clan mechs 95% of the time so I don't feel I have enough experience to comment on the IS builds.

we should really petition them to fix that. That launcher has to be one of the less well implemented hardpoints I've seen translated in this game.

I dunno ... I'm (almost) as big a lore nerd as anyone, but I just don't see the point in going out there in 3025-spec stock 'mechs. When everyone else is running in full 3050 spec. I get the appeal of keeping the lore flavour of the 'mech, but that just seems like unreasonable punishment.

I spend a lot of my time in superstock builds which basically add switch to DHS, Endo, and an XL engine. I'll then put all the freed tonnage towards additional weapons, while trying to keep the essential flavour of the 'mech intact.

For example, in a Wolverine I typically have the original movement profile (280XL, 5JJ), but the right-arm big gun becomes an LPL, the head ML is kept, while all the freed tonnage allows me to add two more SRM 6 launchers. It's still recognizably a Wolverine, and rolling around in that makes my little mech 'nerd heart swell. But as opposed to a 3025 stock build, it does just fine in the public queue, even with an average pilot at the helm. Posted Image

I agree the gift-code Centurion has an unusually good stock build, because it has just the right amount of ammo and just about manages with SHS.

That's the Centurion for you, it's always been "okay" for the most part. Even in TT, it was never really a stand out, but a solid performer all the way around.

Stock builds belong to Stock Mode. Try it with us, 3025 Stock Mode is best experience that MWO can give you.

Stock is the simple solution.

One queue and one queue only.

I will definitely take a look into joining these games. Do I have to "re-stock" my mechs or will it do it automatically for me if I join the game?

Offering a stock game mode would be great!
