okay.... to put it into relation. your hand has a base thermal shock resistance starts at 39 BTU. the average heat generated by physical activity. if you raise the BTU to 50 you start to burn. that's 149 degrees Fahrenheit, and an increase in temperature of 10 degrees per second to that temperature. So, to relate this instance to ferro-fibrous armor and a LASER (gradual evolution to ARMS vs. ARMOR) you can assume that the thermal shock resistance of Ferro-fibrous armor is relative to the amount of damage the arms developers intended to deal to it. either way you swing the stick, from an engineering standpoint, it is an unsound strategy to blink the laser if you wish to inflict damage to a surface. so really, stop being dumb. pass your hand over a 3kf fire and tell me if it hurts. then put a glove on and pass IT through a welding torch @ 11kf .... if you still don't get my point, then you need to shut up, because you'll never get it until you go back to school.

There is a point where the temperature of the flame doesn't matter. If you pass your hand through it in such a way to not allow time for that heat to transfer, then heat doesn't transfer. kinda like when your thermostat goes out in your car. but wait... that's more engineering babble that nobody understands .... so ... i'll tell you what, I'LL SHUT UP, because I'M misunderstood. god forbid someone SHUT UP when they misunderstand....

Standard BattleMech armor is composed of several layers providing various degrees of protection and support. The first layer is extremely strong Titanium alloyed with steel, the result of crystal alignment and radiation treatment, which is also very brittle. The second layer is a ceramic, cubic boron nitride, which combined with a web of artificial diamond fibers acts as a backstop to the steel layer. These two layers rest atop a titanium alloy honeycomb structure which provides support, and a layer of self-sealing polymer sealant which allows for space and underwater operations.

Ferrofibrous offers same protection but is lighter.

2nd layer stops lasers, extra dmg from pulses is basically result of allowing 1st layer to dissappear.

As for wubs
"Pulse lasers differ from traditional laser weaponry, in that instead of firing one powerful beam, they maintain laser beams fired off in quick succession."
This is what fluff says about pulse lasers, says jack **** about length of particular beam(could be 3x 2s or 70x0.1s) but wubs are pretty much proper representation of this.

so, you're quoting what was written by people who read about other people who built lasers and thought "hey, there's a fun Idea."

I (ME) am TELLING you, as a person who HAS PERSONALLY built a laser (a chemically induced light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation.) that could burn holes in .14 gauge steel, that it is unsound, unwise, and ineffective to MAKE THE LASER FLICKER. The reason for more weight and heat in an electrically induced light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation, is to reduce the necessary time to cause damage.

But, I get it, you want to go 100% to lore. cool, then you should complain about why a locust is as big as it is. In lore, it's as tall as a WarHammer. if you know.... you wanna go 100% to lore.
I will admit, there is quite a bit of practicality in the lore. That's not to say there isn't a WHOLE LOT of impracticality in it.

This is what we get when there's Intended use, and unintended deductions. you realize that was written back in the days of MW2,... when lasers looked like bullets flying out of your mech?

I dont want to go 100% lore, i dont however want to stray from lore and tt rules unless its really needed.

And your example with 10 meter locust(i ******* checked) being rescaled in mwo actually helps a bit in fps with accurate aim, while it had no impact on tt rules.

On the other hand, pulse flickers, thats the point of it, if we make it not flicker because science then you just removed a weapon class from the game and for what reason?? what does it help??

Ofc you can say **** it, throw out battletech franchise from your logo and go however you want. Mech assault didnt proudly display on logo how it tries to follow source material...

but a pulse laser..... doesn't flicker. it deals the same damage as a normal laser, it just does it faster. regular laser: weight 4 tons, occupies 1 slot generates 10 heat. Off=0 damage. ON=10 damage over 2 seconds if held on target. PULSE LASER: weight 5 tons, occupies 2 slots generates 11 heat. OFF=0 damage. ON=10 damage over 1 second if held on target. more heat, same damage, less time. because science... allowing PULSE LASERS to still be a thing, and actually be more attractive than regular lasers for most applications. also because dictionary: PULSE:noun a single vibration or short burst of sound, electric current, light, or other wave. UNDERLINE SHORT BURST. because lasers don't vibrate.... at least... not the beam. not visually ....

I remember when we had pulse lasers with same dmg as larges.
What happened?? ppl used larges.

And again, you want pgi to scrap entirety of tt stats and start anew, what could go wrong, its not like its least popular mechwarrior in the entire series already.
As large pulse laser actually does more dmg, weights more in tt and is more accurate
And if it does like you propose weight only 1 extra ton and creates only 1 extra heat for half the burn time(already extremely long one) you know what it will be?? broken op.
And if you ask pgi how it should then you will get answer. Erll 4 tons 1.25 burn time, lpl, 5 tons 1.15 burn time 12 heat.

And etymology of word pulse.
""to beat, throb," early 15c., from pulse (n.1) or else from Latin pulsare "to beat, throb," and in part from French. Related: Pulsed; pulsing."

omg.... I'm done feeding you troll.... .... just.... soo done ....lmfao... I've had more intelligent arguments with 5 year old kids than you. you cannot even apply practicality to a definition. I'm done trying to explain that 2+2=4, and not WHAT. I know, there's 4 letters in the word what... that doesn't mean that 2+2=what. .... just.......... ugh....... if anyone who has graduated college outside of tenure or scholarship wishes to read my post and offer and validate an arguable suggestion, please do. I'm done trying to explain the gap in logic to a troll. .... totally done. go play tabletop kid. all I can say now. go play TableTop. stop playing MWO.... go play tabletop... stop trolling me, I only want to be understood, not trolled. go play table top. you want table top rules? go play table top.
