So I had a great game, but got disconnected right at the end. As in, there were two enemies remaining and at least eight friendly mechs were fifteen meters from the enemy base. I hit rejoin, but the game ended before I could load in, so it spat me out in the mechbay with a ten-second penalty.
Here's the thing: I don't think I got any c-bills for that match, or any XP. Is this working as intended? I understand wanting to punish serial disconnecting, but no rewards at all for the first time because the game dropped me?

Yes, and?
The whole 'hurr durr life aint fair' argument is the stupidest one ever when it's used regarding video games. It runs on lines of code, it's governed by rules and I'm asking for clarification if it's working correctly or if the servers crapped themselves because I was reconnecting as it ended.

The game didn't disconnect you. The wording is misleading. It just means the connection between your computer and server has been severed. This game is quick to interpet that as disconnect. Most games continue to work for a while and they can resume without rejoining/reconnecting whenever the game client starts receiving data from server again. But MWO is different.
And, well, that's how it works. Nothing you can do about it. Losing the rewards every now and them is hardly a problem? Personally sometimes it sucks when you have a good game, and you won't be able to see how much you did.

Yes, you got rewards and XP for that match. You don't get them until the match ends though, and the UI may not update till it reloads.

That's also why the penalty for a single disconnect is so low. 10 seconds delay before launching a new match is irrelevant, and you DID get your rewards. The penalty only gets up to being an actual issue when you disconnect a bunch of times.

Alright, thanks for the clarification. FWIW the match was on the Oceanic servers and I'm in North America, so that probably had a lot to do with it. I've un-ticked them in the quickplay options just in case.

the way the penalty system works is as follows
if your Mech is still functional and you disconnect (it counts as a disconnect if you make it to the vote screen then crash out, or if the game crashes) reconnect more than 2 minutes after a disconnect or do not reconnect you get a penalty
if you kill an allied Mech you get a penalty
if you get more than 70 team damage in a match (I rarely get more than 12) you get a penalty
the first penalty is 10 seconds, just a minor warning, subsequent penalties get progressively more severe, if I remember correctly the second is 2 minutes, 3rd is 5 minutes, 4th is 10 minutes, and they keep increasing, if you do not get another penalty within 4 hours the penalties are reset.
