I've legged griffins before. It does take time... and usually them not focusing on you. It's also usually the last thing i do (but not always... especially if one on the IS side runs off for whatever reason... and the rest of my team is focusing on legging the other mechs).
I dunno. There may be counter tactics to try on the stormcrow, but that requires experimentation. And most people can barely stand to think for themselves ("someone have a build I can [brainlessly] follow?") let alone be brave enough ("let's all stand on this side of frozen city and snipe with stuff for about ten minutes, until we get rolled") to try something different. If it's not meta, it doesn't exist is too often the mantra.
And I would second the suggestion on cicadas. Two of them in a group, going full tilt reverse and using steady aim of double er large lasers on the legs (maybe with range modules?) can kill any short/medium brawl build... because you will never get in range to hit them with your weapons. However, that does require relatively level terrain... like the water in forest colony. So it's not perfect, but it can work.

Don't agree.
Clan mechs and weapons are fundamentally more difficult to use well. Much worse heat profiles, longer weapon duration and dynamics that lead to damage spreading (which is not a good thing).

Why not leg a Griffin? About the only thing that I don't mess with trying to leg too often are clan assaults. I will sometimes go for the legs on IS assaults, especially ammo heavy builds like lrm boats. It's surprising how many don't use equip case.
I could be wrong but i think you simply cant equip case in the legs

You're right, you can't, but ammo explosions carry from legs into the side torso. If there is a case there the explosion would potentially take out that side and the arm, without a case, ammo in the leg explodes, extra damage is done to the internals of the side torso, if there is ammo there that explodes and extra damage is done to the CT.
You can tell when a mech is destroyed by an ammo explosion because it doesn't go boom all at once. There is actually enough of a delay that you can watch the separate components be destroyed. It's pretty cool to see.
