WHERE TO GO FROM PTS4?

Back to gh for the beginning and back to drawing board as long goal.

Trash the system stay with ghost heat it is not perfect but if I have to choose between absurd alpha's and pgi nerfing everything in the damn game. I choose ghost heat. PGI CAN NOT BE TRUSTED.

If it were up to me, I'd want to do one more round of testing to try the TT system instead. ED could be adapted with less than a day's work to emulate the TT heat system. We probably wouldn't have the penalty system available to test, but it will allow a proof of mechanics.

Even without the penalties in place, the system will still lower the practical alpha cap, and reduce total DoT due to a serious reduction in output sustainability. It won't have the full effect without the penalties, but it will still have real reductions.

And it doesn't require us to make any changes to weapon balancing from the live servers to work. It would offer a good 1 to 1 comparison to the base heat system. We can even try it with GH if we want.

GH is only concerned with one issue... preventing players from firing too many synergistic weapons at the same time. ED tries to do that too, AND correct problems with the base heat system too. Completely unrelated problems that really do not have a common solution.

If we fix the heat system first, we can come back to look at the "boating" problem specifically later. We already have a number of good solutions to that issue out there.

This is the drawing board. GH is still on the live server so nothing has changed. They are trying all kinds of things here to try to find something or a combination of things that works. We have the opportunity to test, provide suggestions and give feedback. This is exactly what people have complained that PGI has not done in the past. If we do not take full advantage of the opportunity to present opinions and ideas from all sides of the debate then we truly deserve whatever we get.

No this isnt drawing board, its throwing **** hoping that it sticks and doesnt stink too much...
We even got trademarked name for that.
DARTBOARD OF DESTINY.

Drawing board would be scrapping current pts and starting again

Why? Because with a low heat cap, Energy Draw is unnecessary and too limiting. I shouldn't have to wait longer than it takes to aim my lasers after firing an AC20, for example. Linking all different weapons to the same weapon system is not a good system, and does not promote diverse play.

Completely agree here. The system was intended to address boating but it has unintended consequences for brawlers that rely on the ability to alpha strike and then turn to absorb the damage.

By TT heat system, do you mean:
  • Returning the weapons to their original values from TT.
  • Make heatsinks proper single and double dissipation rates over a TT round.
  • Give all weapons a 6 second cool down (or what ever the standard round duration was in TT)
  • Maximum heat of 30 before shutdown.
That the idea?

No... keep weapons values the way they are now. The heat system doesn't care about anything but the heat value for weapons. If the heat value is balanced to its output and investment, the heat system shouldn't get involved in weapon balance. There are other mechanics for that.

Proper cap values for sinks is a starting point, but not an ending point. Once we get the heat system mechanics changed, we can revisit any adjustments needed to capacity. In all likelihood, we won't need any, but if we do, it will likely be on a mech weight-basis.

Cooldowns can stay as they are. Cooldowns are the primary method to balance the value of the damage a weapon does, and helps balance the mechanics MWO adds for weapons like duration, spread, etc. Heat really shouldn't worry about this either.

And TT doesn't have a fixed 30 cap, it has a 30pt penalty bar on top of the base heat capacity of the mech. But yes, reintroduce the penalty mechanic, breaking the MWO heat scale back up into the two parts that were smashed together to begin with.

If there was a poll, the idea PTS v5 "ED without ED" would have my vote.

It certainly would be awesome to see the lower Heat Cap in action without GH/ED.
