OP, I respect where you're coming from, and I think the
goal you describe (improve differentiation from generic FPS's) is a good one.
Ultimately this is bound to be difficult: because this
is an FPS, and people revert to a generic FPS playstyle because it works here too. So you get faster-than-lore one-button boats which release maximum damage with minimum exposure, however boring and repetitive that gets.
I dislike outright banning group fire because it feels like a contrived limitation. Overall I like where the current PTS run is going, in
penalizing massive alphas more. In effect, in the PTS a massive, sudden draw of energy overwhelms heat management and you get extra heat. Also they finally take down the massive heat caps. There are lots of parameters there which can be fine-tuned, but I like the general idea, and I think it'll be better than what we have now.
Also, imagine some poor Nova / Dire Wolf with a ridiculous number of weapons (what do they have, 16?), if group fire was banned.
