What does this suffix mean?

Pretty sure it's the target designation. So the first mech discovered by your team is (A), second is [B], and so on.

Not sure why you'd see (AAA or BBB) though, since in Faction Warfare when it rolls over past (Z), the next would be (AB) and the maximum designation would be (AV) I think (26+22 = 48 total mechs in the drop)... so maybe a bug?

That's your mech's combat designation. Starts with A, then B etc... This screenshot was taken in FW match where 48 mechs fought with 48 mechs, hence the extension of designations.

Some ppl (or mechs) have no suffix.
