I am wondering what is better; to go for the headshot right away on enemies that are AFK or DCed, or to destroy as many components as you can.
I understand that the arguments for each are, the headshot provides a lot of salvage and can get you a little closer on an achievement.
Whereas stripping the components can yield more damage which can result in more money and a higher PSR.

But again, which is better and why?

Is there something else that I missed?

More salvage for your team, though only a very little bit more for you, as it's split evenly, and the total salvage amount is always small.

No achievement progress for a couple reasons, and a few other factors that make the question irrelevant:

1) You don't get rewards for disconnected players

2) You don't get achievements for disconnected players.

3) Disconnected players' hitboxes usually change so that you can't hit the cockpit.

So, really, just kill them quickly. It doesn't matter how.

Head. End the game faster for everyone.

If you don't know where the head is, shoot the back.

I generally go for headshots. No particular reason.

In uneven ground, you have literally no chance of getting a headshot.

Just backcore the target quickly for your own good.

Tips for farming: Ignore the bloody arms

If you remove the STs, you get the arms in full
Stop going full Potato and wasting time

One Leg, one ST

If they have 0 Ping, ignore the face. There's spawn protection of some sort which prevents you from taking a 0 ping spawn-er's face.

If I remember correctly it's not a protection but a spawn de sync. It's there just in another position. I've managed to find a cockpit on a DC mech before by and taking it down after. But whether it gave me an achievement I do not remember. Still sitting on 27 headshots

full disconnects don't give the headshot achievement (or progress on the head hunter one), but ZERO ping didn't connect/load into the game properly mechs DO give it. The main reason to take the head shot (or an easy back on a light mech) is time saving, which then lets you go do other things in the game. Of course it also depends on WHEN during the game the opportunity presents itself to you. If its the last mech and you found it first, you might not want to take your time as others will be trying to steal the kill. If its early in the game, again, quicker the guy/gal dies, less likely they finish connecting to ruin your plans, and also its demoralizing to many players to see the kill score going in the enemy team's favour.

Lol wut.

The obvious answer is destroy everything but the head, vital torso(s), and 1 leg. Then run off and see if the AFK/DC comes back into the game piloting a junked out, weaponless pogostick mech.

I remember doing this to an AFK stalker at the enemy base and then leaving to help my team. Later on the stalker un-AFK'd and hobbled across the map so our team could laugh at him and wonder how a brand new contact lost both arms, both side torsos, and a leg but was otherwise pristine.

I also note that was a private match and they don't count for a lot of things.

Wrong

These stats (anything not Cbills and EXP) reward their proper amount
And that amount is significantly reduced (AKA, nothing until he reconnected)

Now, I cannot remember what happened when I destroyed a component while he was disconnected...Where's that vid?!

Yeah, shortly after this change went live, there where lots of complaints by people getting no credit at all in public queue matches for tearing up disconnected mechs.

Specifically I recall a king crab player upset that the mech he stripped and killed at the end of the match - another assault that had never even moved in the match - granted no rewards at all. He took the mech apart completely and had a total match score of 4 for the whole battle (as he clearly accomplished nothing but killing the DC.)

AFK players grant rewards (they ARE in the match, they just aren't doing anything), but disconnected players do not, whether they were disconnected from the start or mid-match.

There where several such cases, some with videos, and I've paid attention to it since then myself.

You get nothing other than personal joy from messing with DC'd players. Just kill them quickly (if there are no better targets) and move on.

I'm all for that change. Too many players sit there and take their time removing every component while their own team is getting slaughtered in a brawl. The worst part is that it's normally a light killing the DC, so it takes absolutely forever to take a mech apart like that. Just get the kill and get back to the fight to help your team. If you're that bad and that starved for points, then you need all the practice you can get shooting moving targets, stop being such a d-bag and get good.

Depends on the situation:

* If it is the last mech - Strip it

* If you happen upon the mech while the rest of your team is battling live mechs - Kill it as quickly as possible just in case it reconnects while you are shooting at it, and to ensure you can get back to helping your team sooner. CT probably best, but legging may also be a good idea since at least if it does reconnect maybe you'll have taken a leg off it at least first Posted Image

The option that doesn't involve 10-20 people watching me shoot an inanimate object for 3 minutes to earn an extra 30,000 c-bills, which I probably would have earned almost as fast by just getting the instant kill and getting into a new match immediately.

Farming components while everyone is waiting is a jerk move.

[Redacted]

It would just as well have happened in a real match in the same manner really.

What's the actual difference? Rewards? We're not even talking about that (though others have). These are hitbox issues while a player is discoed.
