A Message To Is Pugs

I just wanted to recognize the thankless role of the IS pug. So thanks to those who bring solid mechs, to those who make calls, those who listen, those that stay with the team, those that make good tactical choices, those that don't chase their own result for the event prizes.
Despite not being in big groups, despite facing the clan juggernaut, despite IS XL engines, despite being told over and over that this mode is not for pugs, despite the joke of a "solo" queue that we were given for barely a week before it was scrapped... Despite all that, we can still win and have a fantastic time doing so.
To IS pugs!

Most people listen to calls, try to work together. There was a 4-man running around doing their own thing and nearly a cost a few games but you get that from time to time.
We did get steamrolled in one game (I had a few of my unit on at that stage, poor form lol), 3 PUGs showed their backs without realising and we were 3 down in 2 seconds so the game proceeded as you'd think from an early loss like that, not ideal, but it happens and I think they learnt from it

So yeah, VIVA LA PUGLANDIA on both sides really, top games tonight indeed.

Good luck for the rest of the event mates and hope to see you on the battlefield

Stop brining so many locusts/ brawling locusts to FW....
Serious it's embarassingl bad, you know the clan runs streaks for one and two your one alpha away from certain death. If you insist on brining a locust stick a ER Large on there or a lpl and harass from range. Seriously my heart just sinks when I see 4 locusts in a wave of mechs...

4+ years in this game and PGI can't manage a solo queue vs premade queue.

PGI tried a solo que for FW where were you? No one joined it, all the pugs made solo units and droped in the group que. It was so bad Russ discontinued it after a week.

I've got to ask - why not get on Davion TS and group up? Change your win/loss to better than 50%, certainly. Get some good advice on builds and strats.
Losing 95% of your matches can't be fun.

Lol, pugs screwed that up when they tried to do something about that. There's nothing PGI can do to balance that out. Until pugs learn to generally run as a team it'll almost always be a poop show when people who came prepared to fight show up. I know it's possible because I saw it happen for a short time in the FRR. It just takes a community willing to put in the work to train their people up across units, and pilots who are willing to be trained instead of "having fun" losing.

That's likely because Faction Play was never meant to support a solo queue. It's a gamemode designed around Unit's conquering planets without a matchmaker. Obviously premades were the primary consideration for this gamemode (funny how that turned out). If you want to turn that losing streak into a winning streak than go to your local faction hub and start getting into some Davion premade groups.

The willingness of people to show up and lose 95% of matches and not change the behaviors behind that is a problem in FW and it's a relatively common behavior. Play how you want and have fun - just realize it can be frustrating for everyone involved.

It wasn't a solo queue, it was a half-hearted attempt for a unit/non-unit queue. A true solo queue like the QP environment ahs NEVER been tried and so it has NEVER failed.

It was awesome for the units - I could pug in FW and most of my matches were dropping with teams. It was incredible.
Nobody wants the "if you're not in a premade you're forced to drop in Rambo queue" except the Rambos who want to force other people to drop with them.
Most people in FW want to play in groups with groups. Sometimes your regular people on TS are not around but you want to play FW. Ideally you'll drop, fill in for a unit and if you're same faction go group up and get on their TS.
It failed because a) few people wanted to Rambo in FW, too few to fill queues and b ) they would never drop attack

That was not a solo/group queue though.
It was a unit tag/no unit tag queue.
Not what people asked for and I have no idea what they were thinking when they implemented it.

The complaint from a lot of solo players is that it's not fun to be in a group with 11 other solo players versus a organized 12 man unit.
People made single man units so they could get a game because of the population split, not because they missed getting rolled.

You talk about generalizing but put every solo player in the same situation. Maybe not every solo player shared the same view that the ones whining about premade stomping had. Perhaps they jumped ship to play in the group queue because they did not want to just play with solo players and that left only the ones that wanted to avoid groups in a very unpopular queue.

Nobody in a unit in their right mind wanted to play on a pug team. There are no threads, anywhere, talking about how amazing it is to play in a team full of people who actively *do not want* to play as a team. People in units pug because the unit they play with either isn't playing FW or isn't around but pretty much universally they are looking for and happy to play with a unit.
if anyone really wanted that then units would have dissolved to go pug in the solo queue when it happened. Nobody did that, it was just solos making units to drop in the unit queue.
The only reason, at all, to try and create a 'if you're not in a premade you have to drop in the derp queue' system would be to force people to fill the pug matches who otherwise actively don't want to.
I loved the split. Matches in the unit queue were significantly better even if there was a bit more wait without the suicide derps in the queue. Both teams, pug and premade, were generally better and played better and had someone calling the drop and other people listening to it.
If someone doesn't want to join a unit that's fine. I totally get it. Has nothing to do with playing as a group in FW. If you don't want to play as a group in a group then go play QP. Playing that way in FW is literally one of the things that makes the game less fun for everyone else.
That and it wasn't that there was nobody in the queue - it's that all those solos absolutely would not get in the attack queue. They all wanted someone else to actually go attack so they could just defend. That's why there were no matches - nobody in that queue, literally less than 12 people at a time 90% of the time, actually had the guts to get in the attack queue. So nobody dropped matches.
It was the most obvious proof that in a depressing majority all the worst stereotypes about pugs in FW are true.
To clarify I would rather slap scorpions off a cactus with my wedding tackle than drop in a 'FW pug queue'. I've never been on TS with anyone who wouldn't consider that a mild way of putting their opinion. You'd either get in a premade or play another game as that would be literally soaking in the worst possible experience you can have the misfortune to luck into in FW; a 12man of pugs, playing in such a group drop after drop would make me want to just abandon technology, hate all humans everywhere and go live in a cave.

Scout matches no issues. Challenging, but fair.
Invasion mode: 17 matches and 16 LOSSES. Only 1 Win.
WTF is the point of playing invasion mode - is all I can expect is to a guarantee to lose lose lose, even though I pull my weight - inflicting on average 1000 to 1100 damage during the match, deploy UAVs, report positions, and use artillery and air strikes in team support; while EVERY InnerSphere team I played on always has 3 or 4 players that do less than 500 damage?
